Tina Yvonne Andrews is an American actress, television producer, screenwriter, author, and playwright. She is best known for writing the TV miniseries “Sally Hemings: An American Scandal” (2000), the first time Jefferson’s relationship with Hemings was explored on television, Hemings was portrayed as a fully aware woman. In 2001, Andrews became the first African-American to win a Writers Guild of America Award for his screenplay for the miniseries. Andrews had earlier explored her interest in Hemings through a play, “The Mistress of Monticello,” which was presented at a symposium in Chicago in 1985.

After graduating from New York University with a degree in theatre, she embarked on a career in screen acting. In the mid-1970s, she played the role of Valerie Grant on the NBC soap opera Days of Us and Aurelia on the popular ABC miniseries Roots.
