India’s Pearl Harbor Moment
During the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, Pakistan dispatched 8 squadrons of Sabre jets and dropped more than 14 napalm bombs on Bhuj on the night of 8 December, destroying the IAF airstrip. Due to the ongoing war, the airbase had to be put into use, so the airstrip needed repairs. However, time is running out and the runway restoration work is understaffed. Vijay Kumar Karnik (the Squadron Captain at the time) was in charge of Bhuj Airport and decided to rebuild the airstrip with the help of locals. He persuaded about 300 women from Bhuj Madhapar to help the Indian army. Together with two senior officers, the 50th IAF and the 60th Wehrmacht, Karnick ensured that the airstrip would remain operational despite bombardment. Thanks to the joint efforts of Karnick and 300 village women, the airstrip was restored in just 72 hours.

- Talking about the film and Ajay Devgn who played his character in the film, Vijay said-
We are fighting a war, and if any of these women are casualties, it will be a huge loss. But I made a decision and it worked out. I’ve briefed them on where they can take refuge if attacked, and they bravely followed it. Also, I can only see Ajay Devgn writing for my character and I’m glad he’s on board. “
