Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy was a freedom fighter who rebelled against the British East India Company in 1846 when some 5,000 peasants protested against the British in Kurnur, Andhra Pradesh.

Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy was born in 1805 (Age: 42 at the time of death) in the village of Rupanagudi, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. His father, Uyyalawada Peddamalla Reddy, was a multidaughter, married to the two daughters of the Northam Dorson.

A rebellious story
The East India Company proposed a permanent settlement agreement in 1803 during Madras’ presidency, replacing agricultural socioeconomic status with a more equal arrangement. According to the agreement, the heirs were deprived of their land, and the village chief was deprived of the rights of landowners and income. At a certain age, the landowners were stripped of their land and distributed to them as pensions. However, pensions are meager. When the British occupied the Rayalaseema area, Narasimha refused to share in the revenue generated by the area. Narasimha Reddy is the military governor of Rayalaseema. He commanded 66 villages including Kadapa, Anantpur, Kurnool, etc. Narasimha Reddy joined 5,000 people to protest against the East India Company system.
To defeat the British, he used proxy warfare. On June 10, 1846, Narasimha attacked the vault at Koilkuntla and moved to Cumbum. He began his revolt against the East India Company by killing a ranger, Rudraram. District collectors take the uprising seriously and send Watson (an officer) to arrest Narasimha Reddy. On July 23, 1846, Narasimha Reddy and his army attacked the British army at Giddalur, Andhra Pradesh. To arrest Narsimha Reddy, the British captured his family in Kadapa. To free his family, he moved to the Narramala Forest. When the British knew he was hiding in the forest, they intensified their operations around the forest, so Narsimha Reddy returned to Koilkuntla.
When the British government learned of Narasimha Reddy’s location, they completely surrounded the area, and on October 6, 1846, Narasimha Reddy was arrested at midnight. He was charged with murder and treason and sentenced to death. After his arrest, he was severely beaten and bound with heavy chains. He has since been taken to the streets of Corquintra, wrapped in bloody clothes, so that no one dared to rebel against British law. In addition to Narasimha Reddy, 901 people have been charged with conspiring against the British. But later, 412 were acquitted, 273 were released on bail and 112 were sentenced to life imprisonment.
