Suhir Chandra was born on Wednesday 15 May 1957 (Age 64; as of 2021). His zodiac sign is Taurus. After completing his studies, Sushil Chandra went to IIT Roorkee in 1977 to obtain a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He then headed to DAV College in Dehradun to pursue a Bachelor of Laws degree.

Sushil worked as an investigation director in Mumbai before moving to Gujarat as an investigation director for the CBDT. In November 2016, Sushil Chandra was appointed Chairman of the Central Committee on Direct Tax (CBDT). On February 15, 2019, Suhir Chandra was appointed as the Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India and on February 18, 2020, he became a member of the Demarcation Committee for the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. In June 2019, Suhir was invited to serve as an international election observer during the presidential election process in Kazakhstan. He has also attended management training courses at various institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, IIM Bangalore and Wharton University of Pennsylvania.

- The 2019 Lok Sabha elections were organised and conducted under the supervision of Sushil Chandra, Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa. Sushil Chandra also held elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand in 2019. In 2020, Bihar became the first state to hold elections amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Sushil Chandra took office as Chief Elections Commissioner on 13 April 2021 and his term will expire on 14 May 2022. Under Sushil’s supervision, parliamentary elections will be held in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur.
- Sushil Chandra encourages limited use of money during the campaign. He suggested deploying special spending observers and other agencies to conduct inspections during the campaign.

- In 2017, Sushil Chandra launched Operation Cleanup, an effort to rid the country of illicit wealth and black money. He also signed a treaty with Switzerland to promote transparency between Indian and Swiss banking services.
- Sushil Chandra’s brother-in-law, Arvind Goel, is under scrutiny by the Uttar Pradesh government for using black money to buy and sell nearly 200 acres of land in Moradabad. Transactions for these lands took place between 2004 and 2017. His brothers Vipin Goel and Arvind were also involved, allegedly buying the land on behalf of 20 shell companies.
