Simar Dugal was born on Monday 20 May 1968 (Age 52; at the time of death). She grew up in Amritsar, Punjab, India, with her friend Ritu Kumar, a famous Indian fashion designer. Simal belongs to a conservative family that did not support her desire to pursue a modeling career. Eventually, the family moved to New Delhi. Simar attended Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi.

Simar Dugal married Quest Merchants CEO Premjit Dugal when he was 19 or 20 years old. Simar and Premjit have a son, Arjan Singh Dugal, who is a menswear designer. They divorced and later, Simar started dating Rajeet Nabha, managing director of Arzai Capital.

Simar Dugal started her modeling career after getting married and becoming a mother. Although her first assignment was a rather naive shoot at the Ritu Kumar showroom, it was the photoshoot by renowned designer Suneet Varma that gave her her first career break. This magnificent picture is also shown in his book titled “Suneet Varma” published by Niyogi Publishers.

Around 1993-94, the Dugal debuted on the ramp. She had her first ramp show at the Craft Museum in Delhi, choreographed by Indian supermodel Mehr Jesia. Since then, Dugal has gone on to become one of the most recognizable faces in Indian fashion.Apart from ritukumar, she also worked with Tarun Tahiliani around 1995. She has walked many ramps as a bride. Later, Dugal also modeled for Kumar’s Clothing and Textiles in Royal India and Tree of Life Designs.

Later, Dugal quit modeling to start designing and manufacturing clothing for the Indian market and leather goods for export. She founded her own brand “Simar Dugal”. Simar Dugal passed away on Wednesday 12 August 2020 at his mother’s home in Delhi. She had a long battle with cancer, which had spread from the pancreas to the liver.A close friend who saw her two days before her death said
I met her when she was in a wheelchair, wearing a gown, like a tramp, but beautiful. There was no blemish on that porcelain skin. “

- Dugal is an avid golfer. In her teens, renowned designer Suneet Varma spotted the stunning model at the Derry Golf Club and was blown away by her beauty. In an interview with the Times of India, Suneet said,
“I met Simar at the Derry Golf Club when I was 17 and I remember just being stunned by her beauty and equally beautiful mother.

Appearance is not enough. Beauty has depth. What makes a person stand out is the whole personality. For example, look at Chandralekha (the dancer) and Shabana Azmi. They may not fit with traditional ideas of beauty, but I think they’re amazing.
