Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is an Indian diplomat. He has served as India’s ambassador to the US and China. Jaishankar is currently the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is the only coalition minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet who did not stand in any elections.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was born on Sunday 9 January 1955 (Age 64; same as 2019) in New Delhi. His zodiac sign is Capricornus. He received his primary education at the Air Force Central School in New Delhi. He graduated from St Stephen’s College in New Delhi. He holds a master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations, specializing in nuclear diplomacy, from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India in 1977 and has served successively as First Secretary, Joint Commissioner, High Commissioner, and Ambassador. He comes from a family of diplomats and has held many important positions in the government.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar belongs to Brahmin family. His father, K. Subrahmanyam, was an Indian strategic affairs analyst, prominent journalist and civil servant. His mother is Sulochana Jayasankar. He has two brothers, prominent historian Sanjay Subramaniam and former Indian Minister of Rural Development S. Vijay Kumar.
He is married to Kyoko Jashankar. He has a daughter Medha Jaishankar and two sons Dhruva Jaishankar and Arjun Shankar. His eldest son, Druff, was married to Cassandra.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India in 1977. His first international position was in Moscow, Russia. He was appointed third secretary in 1980, and was promoted to second secretary in 1980. He returned to China in 1981 and served as Deputy Minister of the US Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He played a key role in the team that resolved the dispute over the supply of U.S. nuclear fuel to the Tarapur power station in India. In 1988, he was sent to Sri Lanka as the First Secretary and Political Adviser of the Indian Peacekeeping Force in Sri Lanka. In 1993, he served as Press secretary and speechwriter for former Indian President Shankar Dayal Sharma. In 2000, he was appointed Ambassador of India to the Czech Republic. In 2004, Jashankar was appointed as the United States Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi. During his tenure as joint secretary, He was involved in negotiating the US-India civilian nuclear deal Strengthen defense cooperation. In 2007, he was appointed Indian High Commissioner to Singapore. As High Commissioner, he helped implement the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA); this expanded the presence of Indian businesses in Singapore.
In 2009, he was appointed as India’s ambassador to China. He has played a very important role in improving India-China economic, trade and cultural relations. Over the years, Jaishankar has been involved in resolving many disputes and disputes between nations. In 2013, Jashankar was considered for the post of India’s foreign minister Manmohan Singhhowever, due to internal pressure, he was unable to appoint him.
In September 2013, he was appointed as the Ambassador of India to the United States of America. He took office on December 23, 2013 in the United States amid tensions over the Devyani Khobragade incident. He successfully negotiated Devyani’s release. On March 10, 2014, he formally presented his credentials to US President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
On January 29, 2015, Jashankar was appointed as India’s foreign minister by the Modi government. He has a good working relationship with former Federal Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj. Following Jaishankar’s retirement, he joined Tata Sons as President of Global Corporate Affairs. On May 30, 2019, he was appointed as Federal Foreign Minister by Narendra Modi.
