Ricardo Izecson, known as Kaka, is a Brazilian football legend who played as an attacking midfielder before retiring in 2017. When Kaka started his career at the age of 18, he joined the Brazilian football club “S*o Paulo FC”. He won the FIFA World Cup with the Brazilian football team in 2002 and joined Italian club AC Milan in 2003 for 8.5 million euros. Kaka was born on April 22, 1982 in Gama, Federal District, Brazil, the son of civil engineer Bosco Izecson Pereira Leite and primary school teacher Simone dos Santos. Rodrigo’s brother Dig*o is also a professional footballer.

His name comes from his younger brother struggling to pronounce his full name “Ricardo” as a child. In the family he was called “CaCa”, which later evolved into “Kaká”.

Kaka’s love for football was born when his family moved to Sao Paulo when he was 7 years old. Before becoming a member of his hometown club São Paulo FC, he played for a local youth club called “Alphaville”. Kaka suffered a spinal injury early in his career and was almost paralyzed. However, Kaka has fully recovered.
