Representative Adam Smith is an American politician and retired lawyer who currently serves as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 9th Congressional District. In addition, he is a member of the Democratic Party, having previously served in the Washington State Senate.
Adam was elected to the state Senate at the age of 25, making him the youngest state senator in the country. He won his first congressional race in 1996 and has been re-elected 11 times since. In 2019, he was elected chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

As a result, it became the state’s first predominantly minority resident. Plus, it’s the second-largest Democratic district in the state, covering the rest of Seattle and being more democratic. In the 2012 election, Adam moved from Tacoma to Bellevue.

In October 2002, Adam was one of 81 Democrats who voted in the House of Representatives to authorize the invasion of Iraq. In March 2012, Adam commented that the U.S. military is doing a great job in Afghanistan and it’s time to bring them home. Adam voted against the 2007 Protection Act, which violated Americans’ civil liberties by allowing wiretapping without legal authorization. In 2001, he ruled to extend the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program.
