Mamidala Jagardesh Kumar was born in 1962 (Age 60; as of 2022) in Mamidala, Nargunda district, Telangana. He holds MS (EE) and PhD (EE) degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. In 1994, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

After completing her PhD, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar started teaching at the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi. During his tenure at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, he was appointed as the NXP (Philips) Chair Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. This position was created by Philips Semiconductors of the Netherlands (now NXP Semiconductors India Pvt Ltd). Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar was appointed Chairman of the Electronics Group, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, a position he held from 2001 to 2006. The Faculty Evaluation Board of IIT Delhi rated Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar’s teaching skills as excellent. During his tenure at IIT Delhi, he was on the editorial board of Scientific Reports, an online and open access research publication. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) named him Editor-in-Chief of the journal Electron Devices Society, where he served from 2006 to 2015.
