On August 10, 2017, Kim was preparing for a farewell party with Danish designer boyfriend Ole Stobbe when he received a text message from Danish entrepreneur Peter Madsen, who invited her to interview him on his homemade submarine, the UC3 Nautilus. Wall decided to drop the party for two hours and join his sub. However, the submarine never returned to port, and Stobe decided to file a missing report on King. The next morning, the submarine was spotted in Køge Bay near Drogden Lighthouse. Police arrested Peter Madsen on August 11, 2017, when the submarine was found, and he said nothing about Kim Wall’s whereabouts. On August 21, 2017, a cyclist reported that Kim Wall’s torso had washed up on a beach in the southwest area of Amager. An autopsy report revealed that the torso was stabbed 15 times, mainly in the groin. On October 6, Swedish police conducted a search with police divers who found two plastic bags in Køge Bay containing Wall’s head, legs, clothes and a knife.

Later, throughout the hearing, he changed his account several times, saying she died from a head injury, and then said she died after inhaling toxic fumes that could have entered the submarine. A post-mortem report showed no signs of head injury or toxic fumes in her lungs. Peter Madsen was charged with murder, indecent assault and sexual assault on January 16, 2018, and was convicted and sentenced to life in prison on April 25, 2018.
