Kevin Costner was born on January 18, 1955 in Lynwood, California, USA, the son of William Costner, an electrician, later a utility supervisor, and his wife, Sharon C. Sharon Rae Costner is a welfare worker. Kevin, the youngest son in the family, grew up with two brothers, Daniel Craig Costner and Mark Douglas Costner.
He was educated at “Buena High School” and “Villa Park High School” but was not academically inclined. He took piano lessons, wrote poetry, and sang in the First Baptist Choir. He received a BA in Marketing and Finance from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) in 1978. During college, he also served as a member of the “Delta Chi Fraternity”.

In June 2004, Costner opened an attraction called Tatanka: The Story of the Bison on US Routh 85, a mile south of Deadwood, South Dakota. He hopes it can become an educational space for people to learn about the history of American westward expansion.
He also invested in the Midnight Star Casino in Deadwood. When he fired casino managers Francis and Carla Caneva in July 2004, a judge ordered him to pay a percentage of $6.1 million to acquire Canevas as his business partner.
