She is a proud alumnus of California State University, Fullerton, and received her BA in Journalism in 2011 with an emphasis on broadcasting. While in college, Katie co-founded a sports program, wrote essays for campus, and served as president of the campus journalism society. In addition, she has received various scholarships and worked as a student journalist in Italy and Vietnam. She has won numerous awards for her documentary on Pekan’s medical mission.
After graduating, Katie interned at Entertainment Tonight in Studio City, California, where she covered events and published several articles on Entertainmenttonight.com. You can catch her on WCTV with her husband Ben Kaplan (the station’s anchor) every weekday from 4-5pm. In addition to this, Katie is passionate about mental health issues and veterans affairs. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and adventure, decorating her home, reading and solving puzzles.
