Joe Furey is an American meteorologist. He currently serves as co-chief meteorologist for WTNH News 8 ( ABC-Affiliate) is headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. Joe broadcasts the weather on the 5-6pm and 11pm newscasts. He became part of the station’s meteorological team in October 2017. Additionally, Joe hosts the 8pm-10pm news at WC TX.
His passion and love for the weather is attributed to Joe’s grandparents. They are from Newfoundland, Canada. His grandmother always slept with the window open in the winter. They told Joe different stories of the icebergs that passed by their home while living in St. John’s, Newfoundland. They even tell the story of how the snow drifted so deep in winter. The only way out of their house was probably from the second floor window.

After graduation, Joe became a graduate assistant/teacher and later assistant director of the Weather Center at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. He works under Dr. Mel Goldstein. Later, Joe moved to Hartford and became chief of the New England Weather Service. There, he conducted daily weather forecasts for clients such as Northeast Utilities. Joe has also worked for many radio stations, such as KC101, WAVZ, and WICC.
His television career began with NEWS12 in Connecticut. Then he moved to Hartford. One of his favorite weather stories is that Dr. Meyer put Joe in charge of building their Weather Data Recording Station, a brand new weather station that will be set up on the roof above the WCSU Weather Office. A few weeks later, Hurricane Gloria appeared. They were all excited when the anemometer recorded a gust of 83 mph, then the newly set-up weather station flew through the window and smashed to the ground as the team watched.
