Jim Sabre (born 27 August 1987) is an Indian film and stage actor. Known for his supportive work in the Hindi film industry, he has been nominated for a Screen Award, an International Indian Film Academy Award and two Filmfare Awards. In addition, Sarbh has directed and acted in many theatrical productions in India. Sarbh made his feature film debut in 2016, playing the villain in Ram Madhvani’s commercial success biopic Neerja; the role earned him positive reviews from critics and earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination and a Screen Award among other honors. Following his role in the thriller A Death in the Gunj (2016), he rose to prominence as a villain in the period drama Padmaavat (2018) and the biopic Sanju (2018), both of which were among the highest-grossing films in India. Jim Sarbh was born into a Parsi family in Mumbai. His mother is a retired physiotherapist and his father is a former seaman and regional director for P&O Ports South Asia and Middle East.
Sarbh’s family moved to Australia when he was three and returned to Mumbai when he was eight, where he attended the American School of Mumbai. He completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at Emory University, USA. He currently resides in Versova, Mumbai.

Drama roles and Bollywood debuts (2009-2016)
After graduating from Emory University, Sabu worked for a year at the Union Theater in Atlanta as a literary intern. In 2009, he toured Atlanta with performances such as The Show!, The Breakup, Tennis in Nablus and Ice Glen; the last role earned him a Major Supporting Actor Award at the Metropolitan Theater in Atlanta. Sarbh moved back to Mumbai in 2012 and started performing in local theatrical productions. His portrayal of Happy Loman in Alyque Padamsee’s 2013 revival of “Death of a Salesman” caught the attention of several critics.
Sarbh went on to perform in Mumbai, including Rajat Kapoor’s What’s Done is Done, Rage Productions’ Glass Menagerie, Vickram Kapadia’s Merchant of Venice, Kalki Koechlin’s Living Room, and later in 2014’s Bull and Eat Debut director and screenwriter respectively. In 2015, he was named to Forbes India’s 30 Under 30 list for his contributions to the Mumbai theatre industry.
Sarbh made his feature film debut with Ram Madhvani’s 2016 biographical drama Neerja. He released two other releases in 2016 – Yashodhara by Jyoti Patil and 3 ½ Takes by Daria Gai. He also worked on Akshat Verma’s short Mama’s Boys and Gouri Dutt’s Like Summer Like Rain.

Sarbh released two Bollywood films in 2017 – the thriller “Ganji’s Death” and the romance “Raputa”. He also starred in Natasha Mendonca’s directorial debut Ajeeb Ashiq, an independent film focused on gender identity and human sexuality. The production was screened at various film festivals in Europe. He played the role of Malik Gafoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2018 epic romance Padmaavat, starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
