Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj is a well-known Indian journalist and male rights activist. She also works as a documentary filmmaker. She came into the limelight after making a documentary called “Marriage Martyrs (MoM)” which was based on the abuse of dowry by brides and their families, under Criminal Section 498A (Anti-Dowry Act) of Indian law, This behavior should be punished. She also participated in a conspiracy to report a viral video of alleged dowry victims, the “Sister Rohtak,” by arranging evidence and interrogating witnesses.

After completing her studies, she worked as a software engineer at Infosys from 2006 to 2008. In 2009, she made a documentary called Gramin Dak Sevak. After its release, the documentary won the Student Film Award at the Jeevika: Asian Livelihood Documentary Festival. Since November 2010, she has been working as an editorial consultant at Exchange4Media. Deepika claims she and her cousin were charged in a false section 498A case by her former sister-in-law after she married. She further claimed that the case was settled out of court and involved a lot of money. These false allegations led her to join the Save India Foundation movement and have been working with them ever since to change the law to a gender-neutral version or withdraw it. However, women’s rights groups have accepted that the law has also been largely decriminalized. Her personal real life situation prompted her to make a documentary on the issue. In 2017, she produced and directed a documentary, Martyrs of Marriage, that exposed the abuse of IPC 498A, an anti-dowry law that seeks to protect the rights of men and women who are victims of legal abuses and fight. In July 2019, Deepika Bhardwaj protested a fake sexual harassment case. That same year, she supported the #MeToo movement in India. She also wrote an article titled,

In 2019, she also exposed the Rohtak sisters viral video controversy that occurred in 2014. After interviewing and consulting multiple witnesses in the case, she released the video, arguing that the accusers were untrue. That same year, Deepika Bhardwaj protested the launch of a law called the National Council of Indian Men, which would apply to issues related to Indian men. These laws are specifically designed to curb false domestic violence cases and sexual assaults. Ironically, the same group of feminist activists who call themselves feminists say they support gender equality but dismiss the conversation citing numbers when it comes to male victimization. This is sad. I don’t think it’s necessarily a war between men and women. I think it’s about justice, regardless of gender. “
