Facts/trivia
- While in college, Christopher was a member of ProSpace, a nonprofit organization whose members support the private space flight field. Christopher also served as a consultant at Space Camp, an Alabama government-funded space camp that promotes science, technology, engineering and other disciplines.
- The space mission was launched by Jared Issacman, CEO of Shift4 Payments, who launched an online lottery draw that attracted more than 72,000 people and helped him raise millions of dollars. The crew will enter orbit in late 2021.
- Christopher also applied for the lottery, but it wasn’t him, but a friend from his college days who won a trip to the track. However, Christopher’s friends knew he was a big fan of Earth and outer space and gave him the tickets. He was shocked when he got the news from a friend and said-
Oh, I’m going to space? you chose me? Wow. cool. ‘ I mean, it was a shocking moment,”
- Christopher talks about his passion for rocket science and outer space. In an interview, he talked about the first time he witnessed a rocket launch and said-
Witnessing my first rocket launch really made me feel that passion. Once you see your first life-size rocket launch into space, for me there are really few other experiences like this that give you goosebumps, it really just changes who you are as a person. “
- Christopher is often described as hopeful, empathetic and passionate about life and its possibilities. Prior to his mission, Christopher had made several donations to the hospital to support their cause.

At 29, Haley will be the youngest-ever American to fly into space, and the first to use a prosthetic limb. She was diagnosed with bone cancer and during treatment parts of her left leg were replaced with metal rods.
- After the announcement, the team was taken to Los Angeles, where they toured SpaceX headquarters to inspect the site, before being sent to UCLA for some mandatory health checks. After this, the crew traveled to California, where they received the same training that NASA astronauts go through before going into space.
