A policeman hit him with a stick, which angered Rajan, who immediately grabbed the stick from his hand and started beating him. This was Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje’s first meeting with the police. Many police officers were injured in the incident. Subsequently, Rajendra was arrested by the police. When Sadashiv was released on bail, many gangs of gangsters in Mumbai had been watching him. Soon, he joined the gangster Rajan Nair, Bada Rajan’s gang, and entered the criminal world.
criminal career
Rajan started by committing petty crimes in Chembur, Mumbai. After joining forces with Bada Rajan, Rajendra became involved in criminal activities such as smuggling, extortion and drug trafficking. While Rajendra continued his movie ticket black marketing business, Badarajan’s rival Sanjeev Dwadiga (who runs a domestic liquor store near Sahaka Cinemas and also engaged in ticket black marketing) business) trying to kick him out of the movie tickets. Business. According to reports, Dwadiga’s men once kept several movie tickets for themselves, which were all black. They often sit among women and make fun of them on the show. This led to a conflict between the Bada Rajan group and the Devadiga group. There were occasional fights between the boys of the two groups. In one such brawl, Chhota Rajan and a group of boys were registered under the controversial Maintenance of Internal Security Act (Misa) in 1975. He was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison. Chhota Rajan is released from prison as a die-hard criminal.
The Rise of Chhota Rajan
According to some sources, Bada Rajan was killed outside court in 1982 by his enemies, the Patan brothers, with the help of Abdul Kunju. After Bada Rajan’s murder, the gang fell into Rajendra’s hands and soon acquired the name “Chhota Rajan”. Rajan vows to avenge his gang leader Badarajan. Knowing of Chotta Rajan’s motives, Kunju surrendered to the Crime Section in 1983 to escape Rajan. In April 1984, as the police took Kunju to the hospital for treatment, Rajan started shooting him. However, Queensland was spared. After the incident, Dawood called Rajan to meet him and offered to let him join his (Dawood’s) gang, which he agreed. He soon found Kunju and shot him at a cricket ground in Mumbai.
become dawood’s right hand
Dawood was impressed by Chhota Rajan’s bold nature and honesty. In 1987, Dawood sent Rajan to Dubai for an assignment, which he successfully completed. A member of the Dawood Group, Rajan used to extort money from builders and wealthy people in Mumbai.
Slowly, Dawood begins to develop confidence in Rajan, and their friendship grows. Dawood began to involve Rajan in every decision he made, and Rajan became his right-hand man. Their growing friendship stung Chhota Shakeel, who assembled a team of Sharad Shetty, Sunil Rawat and Shakeel himself. Together, they angered Dawood against Rajan.
break up with dawood
From 1984 to 1993, Rajan and Dawood were considered a deadly combination in Mumbai’s underworld. However, after the 1993 Mumbai bombings, the two fell out. At the time, Rajan framed an independent gang that regularly clashed with Dawood Ibrahim’s D Company.
According to reports, the main reason for their split was the murder of Ibrahim Paka, the husband of Dawood’s sister Hasina Paka, by Aaron Gawley’s gang. Dawood wanted Rajan to avenge the murder of Ibrahim, but Rajan did not take his orders seriously and continued with his normal operations. This gives Chhota Shakeel the opportunity to take Rajan’s place. Shakir assured Dawood of his revenge, successfully completed the operation and became a reason for the Dawood-Rajan split.
Dawood tried to assassinate Jota Rajan
Since Rajan and Dawood parted ways, there have been occasional gang wars between the two. In September 2000, Dawood sent Chhota Shakeel to kill Rajendra while he was partying at a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Before Shakeel arrived at the hotel, Chhota Rajan got a call telling him about the assassination. Rajan soon reached the Indian embassy, ββwhere he met an official. A few hours later, he was sent to Kathmandu and from there to Malaysia.
The failed assassination attempt proved to be heavy for Dawood. In 2001, Rajan shot dead two of Dawood’s associates, Vinod and Sunil Thornes, in Mumbai. Although their deaths had little impact on Dawood, in January 2003, members of Rajan’s gang shot and killed Dawood Ibrahim’s chief financial manager and money-laundering agent Sharad at an Indian club in Dubai. This was a colossal failure for Dawood, as the murders took place in what Dawood believed to be his backyard location, and the financial and monetary information of the criminal group managed by Sharad was never fully recovered by Dawood. Soon, Rajan left Dubai for Australia. After living in Australia for seven years, Chhota Rajan moved to Bali, Indonesia (named Mohan Kumar) with a fake passport.
Murder crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey

arrest and conviction
Rajan was arrested in Bali, Indonesia in 2015 after Australian police said he had travelled to Bali with a fake Indian passport called Mohan Kumar. He was reportedly in the process of immigration when authorities asked him to reveal his name. Rajan immediately gave his original name “Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje” and then corrected himself, Mohan Kumar. This raised suspicions from the authorities, who went through the identification process.
In the process, 11 of his 18 fingerprint points matched Rajendra’s identity, confirming that he was Chhota Rajan. On 6 November 2015, he was deported to India.
In India, Rajan was sentenced to seven years in prison by the CBI Special Court in New Delhi in 2017 for a false passport case. In 2018, he was convicted in the murder of journalist J. Dey and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Maharashtra MCOCA court.
