They reached the top and unexpectedly attacked the Pakistani army. Batra killed 3 Pakistani soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. There were no casualties in his battalion. They occupied Point 5140 and recovered a large amount of ammunition and heavy artillery. Batra contacted his command post and said these words, Ye Dil Maange More (His Battalion’s Call to Victory). On July 3, 1999, 13 JAK Rifles and 28 Rashtriya Rifles began their mission to capture 4875 points. This is a strategically important mountain as it overlooks the 30-40 km National Highway 1 and the Indian Army outpost. Batra was not part of this mission. Because he has a fever. The battalions began to perform their tasks and marched smoothly towards the summit, but were understaffed; due to heavy fire. Captain Batra sought permission from his commander to go into battle. When the other soldiers saw this, they also asked to go with him. Batra was allowed to go to the summit with 25 soldiers. The team at the top received a wireless message— Sher Shah (codename for Batra) is coming. The Pakistanis intercepted the message. Knowing who Shersha was, they broke into the Indian Army’s wireless communication system and threatened him. Batra was informed of the threat, but he moved on.
On July 7, 1999, he reached 4875 points. They attacked 2 bunkers and destroyed them, but he was taken aback when Pakistani troops attacked them from behind the ledge. Batra crouched forward and threw two grenades to destroy a Pakistani machine gun position. He attacked the ledge, entered through the narrowest entrance, caught them off guard, and killed five Pakistani soldiers. The onslaught of Captain Batra and his men gave them the upper hand. Only one Pakistani machine gun post remained. Bartra was seriously injured. He took control of the post, however, an Indian soldier was wounded. Batra asked the submarine to evacuate the soldier, and when they rescued him, he was hit by a sniper and then an RPG hit him near the head. Bartra fell and was seriously injured. This angered the Indian soldiers, who then captured 4875 points.
