Profession
She started her career as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist in December 2013 at the National Health Service in Nottingham, UK. She worked there for almost two years before she was appointed by the British Army to the OC PCRF (Officer Command Policy and Charge Rules Function) in Blandford, UK. During her tenure, as an OC, she helped 2,400 people recover. After working there for almost two years, she was appointed as a physiotherapist by the British Army in July 2018 (during a UNO South Sudan tour). She then started working as a Clinical Training Officer/Physiotherapist and was deployed in Preston, UK, by the British Army. While working in the British Army, she organised combat training for Combat Medical Technicians (CMT). She also organised training for the UK Medical Corps as a Clinical Training Officer. During the 2021 Antarctic expedition training, she spent about two months towing two large tires to train herself to carry a heavy sled. After 40 days, she completed her Antarctic expedition on January 3, 2022. Travel 700 miles (1,127 km) and carry the sled with her kit. The average temperature recorded was -50 degrees Celsius and winds were around 60 mph. Chandi shares her expedition through a 40-day blog. On her blog, she writes,
Anything ambitious can feel out of reach at first, but every little bit of training I’ve accomplished has brought me one step closer to my goal. My training expeditions in Greenland and Norway helped prepare me and my goals are now achieved. It definitely felt cooler in my last degrees at higher altitudes. I haven’t seen anyone here in my last degree, and now I’m 15 nautical miles from the South Pole. I can’t believe I’m almost there. “
Another of her blogs wrote,
I arrived at the South Pole where it was snowing. Feeling overwhelmed at the moment. I knew nothing about the polar world three years ago and it felt so surreal to finally be here. Coming here has been tough, and I want to thank everyone for their support. This expedition is always more important than me. I want to encourage people to push their boundaries and believe in themselves, and I hope you can do that without being labeled a rebel. I’ve been told no many times and been told to ‘do normal things’, but we create our own normal. “
On her blog, she even shares real-time tracking maps of her expeditions. On the 40th day of her expedition, she wrote,
Day 40 – The end. Preet just made history by becoming the first woman of color to complete a solo expedition to Antarctica. You have the ability to do whatever you want. No matter where you come from, or where your starting line is, everyone starts somewhere. I don’t want to break the glass ceiling; I want to smash it into a million pieces. “
