On November 3, 2010, I was in Kunduz province, Afghanistan, and I was on patrol with the Afghan police in what we call “deliberate removal.” I looked and I saw an Afghan policeman outside, so I told the Afghan police, ‘You have a guy down there, you need to go get him,’ and they told me no, told me they weren’t going to go after him, I don’t intend to save my own people. So I went to pick him up without thinking, you don’t leave a man, you don’t leave an ally, so let’s turn the car around to pick up that wounded Afghan and go to hell. We put the car between us and the bad guy and I climbed out and grabbed the guy but when I got there I found the guy was too injured to grab and throw in the car and he was bleeding and was going to bleed He died right there, so I started throwing tourniquets at him…then, all of a sudden I heard pops and pops and then my legs started to burn and then it started to feel like a chainsaw was slicing my legs, a Taliban The sniper with an automatic weapon saw what we were doing, was waiting for us, then shot under the car and caught me. “
