Bella Bajaria was born in 1966 (55; as of 2021) in London, England. She spent part of her childhood in England, Zambia and Los Angeles. Her grandparents belonged to India, but they moved to Africa to start a business there. Later, her East African-born parents moved to London. After Bella was born, her parents moved to the United States when Bella was only 4 years old. She attended local public schools in Los Angeles in 1978, working as a cashier at Torrance High School and Rollin Hill High School. She graduated from California State University Long Beach College of Letters in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.

In the 1970s, when Bella was 4 years old, her parents moved to the United States with her 4-month-old brother and sister to start a car wash. Soon, Bajaria’s parents became illegal immigrants due to expired visas. Meanwhile, her parents arranged for an investor visa, and Bella lived with her grandparents. Bella met her parents in 1978 and recalls how she lived without them. she says,

Her husband’s name is Doug Procillo. He is a writer and producer. The couple have three children, two daughters, Rami and Sofia Prochilo, and a son, Enzo Porchilo. In an interview, Rami and Sophia said of their mother,

Profession
She started working as a cashier while she was in high school. After high school, she entered beauty pageants and won Miss LA India, Miss India USA and Miss Universe India 1991. When asked by an interviewee how this all happened, she said,
I was 19 at the time. I try to be proud of my heritage while blending in with America. My family said, “You should do this. You’ll meet Indian girls from all over the world.” The beauty pageant allowed me to embrace Indian culture as I wished. People were surprised that I won, but I think I did well because there were no stakes for me. I am confident because I have no identity. “
In 2006, she recalled her days as an Indian-American beauty pageant. Sharing her memories of beauty pageants, she said,
I take this title very seriously. I use my platform to talk about the issues I really care about. How much you can achieve is entirely up to you. I took every opportunity. “
After graduating, she started production at Vijay Amritraj’s company First Serve Entertainment as creative director. In 1996, she worked in CBS’s film and miniseries department. She left CBS for a short time to join Warner Bros. Television as a film and miniseries manager. She then rejoined CBS in 1997 as a director of films and miniseries. In 1999, she was promoted to vice president and in January 2002 was named senior vice president of films and miniseries. In 2011, she joined Universal Television as executive vice president and was soon promoted to studio president. Universal Media Studio was nominated for 49 Emmys that year, including “Rock 30,” “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Friday Night Scene,” “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” six nominations. Bajaria joined Netflix in November 2016 as Vice President of Local Language Originals, responsible for non-English TV programming. Bajaria oversees Netflix’s original content in India, Asia, Middle East, Turkey, Africa and Latin America. She is known for shows like “Indian Matchmaking”, “I Never Have” and “Sacred Games”. In 2020, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos announced, saying:
“Since joining Netflix in 2016, Bela has demonstrated her versatility and creativity – building our unscripted team and helping us take local languages, which are increasingly important to our members, to the next level. In her new role, Bajaria will take over all Netflix television programming, including English, scripted and unscripted, series and limited series.”
