Baltej Pannu was born on Friday, April 5, 1968 (Age 53; as of 2021) in Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab. He was educated in government schools. He attended high school in Sultanpur Lodhi and moved to Canada with his father at the age of 18. He returned from Canada in 2011 after working in Canada for 25 years.

Baltej Pannu started as a broadcast journalist in 1990 in Brampton, Canada. He gained popularity after working for many world-renowned radio news stations such as Radio Punjab USA, CBS Radio Canada and South Asia Radio Edmonton. Mr. Pannu returned to India in 2011 and since 2013 has been the editor of the website www.aajnama.com. As a result of his social and political activities, Baltej began appearing six days a week on many radio and television programs on 5AAB Television, a Punjabi-language channel based in Mississauga; a city in Canada. He has appeared on many news programs on YouTube channel Punjabi Radio USA, including “Khabar Te Nazar”.

Baltej Pannu openly criticized the Punjab government for failing to control corruption and increase the illegal drug trade during Parkash Singh Badal’s tenure as chief minister, Baltej claimed on his Punjab Radio America and Canada Connect radio show that since Parkash Singh Badal, his The son and two brother-in-law hold important political positions in the Punjab government and must have close ties to drug dealers and organised crime. Mr Pannu was also very outspoken in his views on the CAA and NRC introduced by the BJP government in December 2019. He also protested the 2020 Indian Farm Bill.

- On November 28, 2015, Baltej was arrested on suspicion of raping Nancy Ghuman, an activist who ran an NGO for children of different abilities. Nancy filed a lawsuit against Mr Pannu, saying he repeatedly raped her on the pretext of marrying her and taking her to Canada. She even disrupted a press conference for Baltej by AAP MP Bhagwant Mann. Bagwant absconded from the press conference, Nancy told reporters,
When I insisted that he marry me, he started threatening me that he would upload videos to defame me. That’s when I decided to get him involved in the rape case. “
Following her complaint, Baltej was held in judicial custody for 72 days because of her Canadian citizenship. The reporter was later cleared of all charges by the court. In interviews after his release, Baltej admitted that he was the victim of a political vendetta because he spoke out against the Akali-BJP government. He even reportedly received death threats from the gunman of an Akali minister for his anti-government rhetoric.
- During farmers protests in 2021, Baltej and 11 other protesters were notified by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of a case against Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a terrorist identified by the Indian government as a Sikh Member of Justice, a US-based pro-Khalistan organization. Some media and intellectuals see this as an attempt by the government to stop the protests. Mr. Pannu said in an interview,
I actively support farmers’ agitation on social media, but I have been against Khalistan and Pannu [Gurpatwant Singh Pannu] Open in my radio talks and TV shows. There is no problem raising any funds for them. Maybe I’ve been notified because my last name is Pannu too. ”
