Her film “The Barefoot Countess” with Humphrey Bogart is considered her signature film as she also has a barefoot habit in real life.

The journey of life
Ava Gardner was born on December 24, 1922, in Grabtown, North Carolina, the youngest of seven children. She has two older brothers, Raymond and Melvin, and four older sisters, Beatrice, Elsie May, Inez and Myra. Her parents, Mary Elizabeth “Molly” and Jonas Bailey Gardner (1878–1938), were poor tobacco tenant farmers. While descriptions of her background vary, Ava’s only documented ancestry is British.
She grew up in her mother’s Baptist faith. When the children were young, the Gardiners lost their possessions, Molly received a job as cook and housekeeper in the teachers’ dormitory at the nearby Brogdon School, which included room and board for the family, and Joe Nas continued to grow tobacco and supplement the sawmill’s odd jobs with reduced work.
In 1931, the normal school closed, forcing the family to finally give up their property dreams, and they moved to a larger city, Newport News, Virginia, where Molly found a man who ran boarding houses for the city’s many ship workers. Work.
In Newport News, Jonas fell ill and died of bronchitis in 1938, when Ava was 15 years old. After her father’s death, the family moved to Rock Ridge near Wilson, North Carolina, where Molly ran another teachers’ boarding house. Ava attended Rock Ridge High School, graduating from there in 1939. She then took a secretary course at Wilson’s Atlantic Christian College for about a year.

Museum
Ava Gardner Museum Located in downtown Smithfield, North Carolina, it houses an extensive collection of artifacts from Ava Gardner’s professional and private life.
The original series was started in 1941 by fan Tom Banks, who met Ava at the age of 12 on the campus of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College), where she was studying to become a secretary. When she didn’t return to school the following year, he saw a picture of Gardner in the newspaper and learned that she had signed a film contract with MGM.
Much of the Banks family was devoted to collecting souvenirs from every possible source. In the early 1980s, Dr. Banks purchased the Brogdon Teachers Apartments, which Ava lived in from ages 2 to 13, and ran his own Ava Gardner Museum for nine years during the summer. Dr. Banks (he was a psychologist) suffered a stroke at the museum in August 1989 and died a few days later. Gardner died on January 25, 1990, five months later. In the summer of 1990, Mrs. Banks donated the collection to the town of Smithfield and pledged to maintain a permanent museum in Johnston County, Gardner’s birthplace and final resting place. One year and three days later, on January 28, 1991, Lorraine died of complications from an asthma attack.
Established in 1996, the Ava Gardner Museum is a 501(c)3 organization that manages and cares for the museum’s collection of personal items and movie memorabilia presented to the town of Smithfield by Tom and Lorraine Banks. Since then, the Ava Gardner Museum Foundation has continued to acquire artifacts related to Gardner’s life and has worked to preserve these objects and display them in an educational manner.
In August 1999, the Museum Board made an investment in downtown Smithfield, purchasing and renovating a 6,400-square-foot (590-square-meter) building that became the permanent home for the Museum’s collection. The new Ava Gardner Museum opened in October 2000 and continues to attract approximately 12,000 visitors each year.
