Ireland led the series 2-1 before the fourth quarter. Zimbabwe gave Ireland a chance to bat first to see the conditions of the field. Ireland lost their first wicket in 40 games. Once down, Amy came out to hit the ball. She improved to 144 before her partner Gaby Lewis, the series’ top scorer, was fired at 78. Their captain, Laura Delany, was fourth and built a 147-point partnership before she was sacked at 68. Amy is playing the anchor role and remains unbeaten with 121 points from 127 goals.
Her team scored 312 times in 50-plus games. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, loses wickets every once in a while and can only score 227 points as they lose eight wickets. Prior to the series, she competed in the Super 50 series, in which she averaged 26 points with 104 points, and reached her half-century debut for the Typhoon. After that inning, National Women’s Trials president Kelly Archer said in an interview,
“2020 has been a breakout year for some players, especially with some new names appearing on the national picker radar. Amy Hunter has been a promising guy over the years, You can see her with the bat and the glove, and she’s starting to use her glove.”
Her statement was backed up by Cricket Ireland High Performance Director Richard Holdsworth, who further added,
“2021 will be a pivotal year for Irish women’s cricket – with 50+ World Cup qualifiers and the ICC Women’s Championship looming, we prepare the teams for future battles and provide them with the best possible results. The best chance of success is critical.”
