Amit Kumar was born on July 3, 1952 (Age 69; as of 2021) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Cancer. His full name is Amit Kumar Ganguly. He attended Besant Montessori School in Mumbai, St. Xavier School in Jharkhand, South Point School in Kolkata and Patha Bhavan in Kolkata among many others. He started acting at the age of 11 and loved to sing since childhood, often singing in Durga pujas. Once, Kishore took Amit to Mumbai when her mother complained to Kishore Kumar that Amit only sang movie songs. Amit used to accompany Kishore to the studio. Kishore Kumar played Amit in two of his films.

Amit is the only child born to Kishore Kumar and Ruma. He has a step-sister Shramana Guha Thakurta and two step-brothers Sumit Kumar and Ayan Guha Thakurta.
Amit Kumar married Reema Ganguly. He has two daughters, Vrienda Kumar and Muktika Kumar.
singing career
His first professional song was “Hosh Mein Hum Kahan” from the 1978 film Darwaza. He recorded the song in 1973, when he was 21 years old. He sang “Haseeno Ke Chakkar Mein”, “Sun Chache Bol”, “Nazar Lage Na Saathiyo”, etc. with his father, which was quite popular. In 1976 he sang “Bade Achchhe Lagte Hain” by RD Burman. Amit Kumar thus gained national reputation and recognition. The song was so popular that it was listed as the 26th most popular song of all time in 1977. He recorded 170 songs written by RD Burman during his career.
He is close friends with Randhir Kapoor and has sung to him in many movies. His 1980 song “Laila O Laila” with Lata Mangeshkar went viral and was voted the sixth best song of 1980. 1981 Filmfare Award for Best Playing Singer for the song “Yaad Aa Rahi Hai” from the movie “Love Story”. Kumar has sung for almost every composer and director and he was one of the most popular broadcast singers of his era. Acting career
His acting career began at the age of 11. In 1964, he starred in Kishore Kumar’s film “Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein”. He starred in several films such as Door Ka Raahi (1971), Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi (1974), Shabhash Daddy (1979) and Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi (1982). His last film was with Leena Chandavarkar (stepmother) and Rajesh Khanna titled Mamta Ki Chhaon Mein, directed by his father. Following Kishore Kumar’s death on October 13, 1987, Amit Kumar took over as director of the film, which was completed and released in 1989.
