Alex Trebek is the host of the hugely popular game show “Jeopardy!” He has been presenting since 1984. “Danger!” is a video game show in which contestants are shown the general knowledge solution to a problem they must develop. Trebek was chosen to host its federated version and has proven to be a very efficient host. Before hosting this game show, he hosted several other shows such as “Trap” and “Odds Wizard.” As a college student, he was determined to study philosophy, although he realized during the course that he wanted to try a career in journalism.

Alex Trebek was born on July 22, 1940 in Sudbury, a large city in northern Ontario, Canada. His mother, Lucille Trebek, was a French-Canadian woman of some Aboriginal ancestry. His father, George Trebek, was a Ukrainian immigrant who worked as a chef at a local hotel.
“My dad was a big drinker and he never missed a day of assignments in his life,” Trebek revealed. Trebek described his father as a hoarder of gadgets that proved useful years later. “His basic philosophy is not to throw anything away because one day it will come in handy,” he said of his father.
A bright and curious child from a young age, Trebek attended a Jesuit school until the age of 12, when he decided to leave Sudbury to attend the University of Ottawa High School in the Canadian capital. “Sudbury is a more hidden memory,” he now admits, “because I was born there and grew up there, but I quit to go to boarding school.”
After graduating from high school in 1957, Trebek went on to study philosophy at the University of Ottawa. After graduating in 1961, Trebek decided to give up philosophy and pursue a career in journalism. His first job was as a temporary reporter and newscaster for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation CBC Television.
Although his cool demeanor on the screen quickly earned a reputation, in 1966 he decided to shift his focus from journalism to the more lucrative realm of hosting game shows. He became the host of the Canadian quiz show Reach for the Top, which pits teams of high school students against each other in academic competitions.
After graduating in 1970, Trebek hosted the more famous nationally televised Canadian game show Jackpot.
He married Elaine Callei in 1974. The marriage ended in divorce in 1981. His second marriage was in 1990 with Jean Currivan. The couple has two children. He is actively involved in the charitable organization World Vision and travels to many third world countries to implement the organization’s projects.
Trebek suffered a minor heart attack at home on December 11, 2007, but returned to work as planned in January. On July 27, 2011, he injured his Achilles tendon while chasing a burglar who introduced him in a San Francisco hotel room. He suffered a mild heart attack on June 23, 2012, but returned to work in July.
On March 6, 2019, Trebek announced that he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer.

Trebek’s primary residence is a 10,000-square-foot mansion in Studio City, California, which he purchased in 1991 for $2.15 million. In the mid-1990s, he paid $4.1 million for a 724-acre horse farm in the rural city of Creston, California. In 2005, he sold the ranch for $10 million.
