WWE Royal Rumble 2022 fails every time
π©π€π
The Royal Rumble has long been the start of the WrestleMania season, with the winner of the Royal Rumble tournament winning a championship match on the biggest stage. This is usually a very exciting event that helps build the next few months. Most recently, WWE hosted the 2022 Royal Rumble, and it wasn’t an exciting event to look forward to, but rather the lacklusterness of nearly every match that left fans frustrated. Here’s our review and thoughts on WWE’s Royal Rumble 2022 PPV, sorry, it’s a “premium live event.”

Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns was game of the year but was ruined by bad ending
Roman Reigns has been arguably one of WWE’s bright spots over the past year or so, as the Universal Champion he continues to dominate the company now, although he’s starting to get a little stale as a Champion, although his reign may at WrestleMania. Fans have been pleading with WWE to turn him around for years, and it turned out to be the right decision, allowing him to perform alongside Babyface like Seth Rollins, Edge and John Cena in many top-tier matches.
If you want to open up PPV or the “Premium Live Event” in the best possible way, put these two former Shield members side by side. Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns could be listed as one of the best matches of 2022, and the year has only just begun. Speaking of Shields, it was fun for Seth Rollins to walk through the crowd into the ring in his old clothes to give fans a huge comeback moment.
The game itself was great, but the end of the game completely ruined it. Roman Reigns locked the guillotine choke to submit the action in the final moments of the game, but failed to release control after Rollins grabbed the ropes, resulting in a disqualification. Understandably, WWE doesn’t want their top stars to lose, but fans want someone to lose, and that’s what wrestling or any other sport is all about, there are winners and losers. Many fans who attended the match expected Raines to win, as the WrestleMania main event likely being planned is Roman Raines vs. Brock Lesnar, which has now been confirmed to be underway. So, an ending like this completely ruins an otherwise great game.
Is Becky Lynch moving away from the Heat?
Becky Lynch’s Raw Women’s Championship against Dudrop lasted 13 minutes and was pretty good, but that’s it, good. The game itself had very little construction and didn’t really give fans any reason to care about the game or the outcome, since we all knew Becky Lynch would be out of the game with the title. And, it seems odd to even type those words, but is Becky Lynch starting to piss off? It might just be me, but whenever I see Becky Lynch on the screen, I just want to turn it off, or I go and do something else.
When Becky Lynch became ‘The Man’ for the first time after an accidental injury at the hands of Niajax, she took on a Stone Cold Steve Austin-esque gimmick, and it was awesome, it felt like we’ve seen modern times before The Texas Rattlesnake builds our eyes. But, in 2022, she’s now known as the “Big Time Becks,” and it’s starting to become apparent that this is what Stone Cold Steve Austin would look like if Hollywood screenwriters had been in the company during the Attitude Era. The company’s number one gimmick and must-see TV has now become its own shell and quickly becomes stale and boring, which is a shame because Becky Lynch is a great worker with plenty of natural charisma.
The WWE Championship doesn’t need to end suddenly
The WWE Championship between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley could have gone one of two ways. Either we’ll see two former MMA heavyweights finally clash in a fantasy fight that fans have wanted to see for over a decade, or we’ll see a very slow and clunky big man-style fight. Thankfully, it was the first game, and the game was great, there were a lot of intense moments, and it felt like a battle. Unfortunately, like Raines vs. Rollins, it was knocked down by a sudden finish.
Lesnar had been managed by Paul Heyman for most of his WWE career, but was betrayed as Heyman joined forces with Roman Reigns in his most recent turnaround. Recently we saw Heyman allied with Brock Lesnar again, only to be betrayed by Roman Reigns during the game after interference. I know WWE did this to try and build a story in WrestleMania, but when I watched it, I just sat and thought, “Why?”
Women’s Royal Rumble match is confusing, no one shines
The Women’s Royal Rumble match revealed a glaring problem with WWE, their lack of stars, and it wasn’t a blow to talent. Excluding NXT, WWE has only 18 female players, and excluding two female champions, there are a total of 20, which is caused by WWE laying off dozens of talents in 2020 and 2021. That means WWE has to find 12 Superstars to fill the match. Multiple former superstars including Rita, Mickey James and the Bella twins are back, but overall, no one really shines in the game, and once Ronda Rousey gets her back at the end of the game, it’s clear she’ll be Win, which makes the rest of the game feel pointless. A good battle royale is usually a clear winner or two, but it behaves like you don’t really know where it’s going. The game felt like the women were killing time before Rousey returned.
95% of men’s battle royales are pointless
My criticism of the women’s game also applies almost exclusively to the men’s game. No one was great in this race, and it felt like we were just waiting for Brock Lesnar to finish 30th to be the champ, and he did. While this is the logical outcome and one we all expected, it just means that the first 49 minutes are worthless, and you can have just as much fun by skipping to the last 5 minutes.
