Will we see another Judge Dredd movie?
👨🎤
If Karl Urban gets his way, we might see an announcement Second Dredd Movie Already, but when it comes to bringing one of the toughest characters in comics to the forefront again, it sounds like it’s stalling. Critics are a bit divided in terms of its reception, but the general consensus is that the movie is a harder-to-play version of the comic book character than 1995, because unfortunately, Sylvester Stallone didn’t Capturing every quality a lot of people want to see in a character. Urban was able to create an emotionless killer in a way that the character’s creator happened to agree to, to get justice. The creators even worked on a second film because Urban’s performance was good enough that it was believed that Dredd could work on more than one film full of horrific one-liners. With all due respect to Stallone, his version is for the ’90s, kinda, but the ultra-serious tone Urban and his co-stars bring to the screen is instantly better.
From a box office standpoint, though, Dred didn’t fare as well, which may leave a sour taste in the mouths of those who think that the praise from critics must mean things are getting better. It’s kind of weird that a movie can be loved and earn less, and this movie makes people wonder why it was made in the first place, but that’s life. Dredd is an idea implemented back in the 90’s with some refinements to give Dredd and his world the look they deserve. Granted, Stallone’s version looked impressive at the time, but Urban’s character ended up giving people the type of character they wanted to see, which was reminiscent of the actual dangers of his world.
Also, having things in a building is a definite benefit because it Raise the risk quotient In large part, because confining Dredd and rookie Judge Anderson to the building is a great way to tell a story that doesn’t have the chance to spread in all directions like the 1995 version. It’s still fair to applaud Stallone’s version as it’s fun and does entertain a lot of people, but while keeping the source material as close as possible, it feels like Urban’s portrayal of the character goes beyond Stallone’s version, some time later More hilarious than serious. This may be due to their co-stars, as Anderson is not Rob Schneider providing comic relief. In fact, Anderson is a bit like Diane Lane’s Hershey Judge, but without the final lighthearted feel. Instead, Anderson is wholehearted, and while it’s clear that her status as a newcomer is holding her back, Anderson is still a great character in the end because of the special abilities she shows in the film.
The villains in Dredd are unbelievable, but in some ways she feels less effective, even though her demeanor is more brutal and serious, because those in the 1995 version were funny in their ways, they felt more Like a cartoon, not something Lena Headey made in Dredd. Her apparently evil attitude can lead to nightmares, and if her building is just one of many that needs to be cleaned up, it feels like there’s a good chance there are others out there that are going to be just as bad, if not infinitely worse. One has to wonder how bad Dredd’s world is going to get, and probably cringe because after Urban’s version, no one knows how tough things will get or if Anderson will be back. Urban is clearly geared up and ready, but it’s fair to assume that there might be timing issues or other things that might have caused things to go in the near future. The best hope of many fans is that we can watch the sequel Bringing Dredd to the big screen because it could be a huge payoff that could lead to more action, more intensity, and more villains who might jump out of the comic books to make it difficult for Dredd . Hopefully he can get another partner who will put enough money in the judge’s life and be fully licensed to do whatever he needs to do to clean every building he can. The sequel will be great, we can admit that.
