The Italian company’s product is used after all races on the Formula 1 calendar, replacing champagne maker Carbon, but it wasn’t the first sparkling wine to be used.
F1 agreed to a deal with Carbon midway through the 2017 season to replace Chandon, whose sparkling wine has been available since early 2016, after decades of using Moet or Mumm champagne.

When did the tradition of spraying champagne begin?
F1 drivers were given a bottle of champagne after winning a grand prix or finishing on a podium, predating the tradition of spray-bottle celebrations.
The tradition of sprinkling beverages is believed to have started in 1966. When Swiss driver Jo Siffert received a bottle of Moët after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the bottle became pressurized after being exposed to sunlight, causing the spray.
Once Seifert opened his Moët & Chandon cork, the champagne exploded from the bottle, splashing other drivers and team members. Tradition was born.
Current F1 driver Lando Norris built his own tradition of smashing a bottle on the ground, causing it to erupt.
Daniel Ricciardo has been known to pour the drink into his race boots and drink “shoes” on the podium.
