The final hour of Squid Game is set outside the stage world, a year after the show. The finale will definitely put you on the edge of your seat – but it might need some explanation.

Why did Sangwoo kill himself in Netflix’s Squid Game?
Sang-woo is a businessman who tried to kill himself in the Squid Game. After Ki-hoon committed suicide after refusing to do it, he was officially eliminated.
Sang-woo has eliminated Sae-byeok (the defector) from the game. Sae-byeok puts a knife on someone’s neck, and Sang-woo stabs her in the throat in surprise.
Many wondered why Sang Woo committed suicide when he could have left alive. Some thought he was ashamed of what he did and how he treated others.
On the other hand, he might be embarrassed to leave the game without money. After being seen as a successful person in everyday life, he may feel defeated at the squid game.
Sang-woo may have realized that the only way to make money for his mother is to hope Ki-hoon wins and helps her. After all, he had known her all his life.
Sang-woo was overwhelmed by this and committed suicide, which meant Ki-hoon won the game. Of course, the truth is that there is no real winner in the Squid Game.

Netflix’s Squid game ending explained
The final two contestants of the show are Ki Hoon and Jo Sang Woo. They grew up together and used to play squid games as children. In the final match, Ki-hoon and Sang-woo are allowed to beat each other until one of them clearly wins or someone dies.
Ki-hoon knocks Sang-woo to the ground and is about to enter the sand ring, which will mark his victory, while Sang-woo faces elimination and death.
Ki-hoon realizes that he doesn’t have to kill Sang-woo to win, because the rules of the game allow for cancellations if the players agree to end the game. To end the game, Ki-hoon goes back to Sang-woo and asks if they can leave together. Sang-woo reaches for Ragi-hoon’s hand, and it seems like they’ll walk away together — alive.
However, Sang-woo picked up the dagger and stabbed himself in the neck, and died in Ki-hoon’s arms.
