Shortly after winning the NASCAR XFinity championship in Phoenix, Daniel Hemric jumped out of the car and flipped. Why did he do this? Which NASCAR legend did he draw inspiration from?
The XFinity title came down to an overtime shootout between Hemric and defending champion Austin Cindric.
Joe Gibbs driver Hemric is in close contact with Team Penske’s Cindric and is well-positioned to take action on the last corner of the final lap of the season’s final race.
Hemric made the move and claimed the title, finally ending the question of when he’ll get his first race win in NASCAR.
Why does Daniel Hemric do a backflip?
Daniel Hemrick would backflip his car in celebration of his victory when he was breaking through the ranks of the car.
He started the tradition when he entered the legendary car in 2008/2009.
Despite his obvious talent and performance in all three NASCAR series, Hemric never won on the tour.

In fact, in Cup, XFinity and Trucks, he was runner-up eight times before Phoenix.
With a bump and run on the Cindric, Hemric ended his 0-207 unbeaten run on the NASCAR Tour, which meant he could bring the backflip out.
After his celebratory burnout and hugs from his JGR crew, Hemric began backflipping his Camry machine.
Who came up with the idea for Hemric?
Daniel Hemric’s NASCAR backflip celebration is nothing new.
In fact, it is most closely associated with Carl Edwards as a sign of victory.
Hemric got the idea from Edward when he first started using it and was able to bring it back to Cup.

Edwards, who abruptly quit racing ahead of the 2017 season, said he thought it was time to stop and he didn’t want to get hurt in the car.
Edwards, who lost the tiebreaker to Tony Stewart in 2011, has 28 wins in the cup series.
Interestingly, Edwards’ last victory — and the backflip — took place in Texas on November 6, 2016.
