Bobba Fett’s book just landed on Disney Plus, and the premiere shows that Bobba Fett has taken off his helmet. Fans want to know why Fett did this and why The Mandalorian can’t remove his armor either.
You may know these bounty hunters as these mysterious faceless characters, however, the Book of Boba Fett gives these characters an established identity. In doing so, Boba Fett took off his helmet, an unconventional move for his role compared to the likes of Mando.
Din Dijarin’s removal of his helmet caused serious repercussions, so why did Boba Fett get away with it?
So it’s understandable that Star Wars fans were confused when Bobba Fett took off his duraplast armored helmet. So let’s figure out why he made this move and what it means for his character.
Why did Boba Fett take off his helmet?
Boba Fett lost his helmet in almost every episode of The Clone Wars, and it appears he did in The Book of Boba Fett.
When Boba took off his helmet, the character’s mysterious appearance seemed to disappear. However, removing the helmet may be necessary if fans want to get to know the character more deeply in The Book of Boba Feta. So much information is conveyed through facial expressions, allowing the audience to fully understand a character. The helmet arguably gets in the way of this and limits the viewer’s connection.
However, Art director and filmmaker Joe Johnston had other ideas when it came to removing Fett’s helmet.star wars artist told New York Times He would rather the bounty hunter wear his helmet.
“I’ll never show his face.”
“I’ll never have an actor where he takes his helmet off, look who it is,” Joe continued, Johnston explained. “I think that clears up a lot of the mystery. He could be anyone until the helmet comes off.”
Why can’t the Mandalorian aka Din Djarin take off his helmet?
Din is actually the only Mandalorian who doesn’t take off his helmet, and fans are wondering why. When other Mandalorians like Boba Fett and Koska Reeves seem ready to take off their helmets.
Mando strictly adheres to The Way, so due to his commitment to the Mandalorian Code, he usually does not take off his helmet. After the Great Purge, the Mandalorian code was tightened, and Ding used his armor to show respect.
It seems that after Din found himself growing up as a member of an extremist group in “Chapter 11: The Heiress,” he also strengthened his religious beliefs. This is because the group he was adopted into follows “The Mandalorian Way” and adheres to old-fashioned Mandalorian traditions. One of them is to never take off your helmet in front of others.
At the end of season 1, we hear Dijarin say, “Since I swore my creed, no creature has seen me without a helmet.” When Cara Dune asked him if he would be killed for taking off his helmet, Djarin replied no Yes, but he would never be able to reinstall it.
So in The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 7, “Chapter 15: The Believer,” when Din Djarin takes off his helmet, it’s a huge shock to the audience. However, it shows an empathetic change in his character and effectively demonstrates what Baby Yoda holds.

Boba Fett, like Judge Dredd, should never take off his helmet. The Book of Boba is dumb. Not a patch for The Mandalorian, it has character and charm. I know it’s only one episode, but it’s trading the “excitement” of seeing more Fett and it wants to elevate him to some kind of mythical status.
