The next generation of tennis stars has assembled a burgeoning group of players ready to take the sport into a new era. Here, we take a look at who the coach of one of these talented youngsters, including Hugo Gaston, is.
The 21-year-old suffered a disappointing first-round loss in qualifying for the Australian Open, with Gaston losing to Australian Max Purcell in three sets.
After disappointment, Gaston reached the semi-finals of the ATP Challenger event in Cherbourg, France.
In his first major tour of the season, the Frenchman lost three sets to Lorenzo Sonego in Montpellier.

The following week, he quickly won his first ATP win of the season in Marseille, where he beat Denis Novak in three sets before losing his last sixteen in straight sets to Jan Nixin satisfied.
After beating Dominik Koepfer in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami, his first victory at the Masters level, Gaston was again thwarted by Sinner.
He reached the final of the ATP Challenger event in Rome in April, beating Thanasi Kokinakis in the final, but he was beaten by Andrea Pellegrino in three sets. That was Gaston’s first final appearance in a Challenger event.
Gaston was unable to replicate the heroism of last year’s French Open as he lost in straight sets to compatriot Richard Gasquet in the first round.

In 2020, the southpaw became the first Frenchman since 1971 to reach the fourth round at the French Open (ATP Tour) and reach a career-high world No. 141 in 2021.
Gaston defeated 2015 French Open champion Stan Wawrinka in five sets before losing in five sets to 2018 and 2019 finalist Dominic Thiem.
The youngster lost in the first round of qualifying at Wimbledon. But the following month, Gaston reached his second ATP Challenger final in Romania, still not strong enough to lift the title.
After Gstaad reached his first ATP Tour quarter-final, Gaston started and reached the final before losing to Kaspar Ruder in the clay-court tournament.

In a disappointing year for the majors, Gaston failed to make it past the second round of qualifying in New York.
Gaston bounced straight from a frustrating run at Flushing Meadows to make his third ATP Challenger Tournament of the season, but it wasn’t his third lucky situation as he again lost in the final.
Gaston lost in straight sets to Dimitar Kuzmanov in his fourth ATP Challenger final earlier this month.
Gaston will have to do something special to qualify for the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan next month.
In that game, the eight players under the age of 21 who have scored the most points this season will play for the season.

Gaston is currently 11th on the trip to Milan and if he can find a way to advance through eighth, he will be joined by Sinner, Felix Auger-Aliassim, Carlos Alcala S, Sebastian Korda, Jenson Brooksby, Brandon Nakajima and Lorenzo Musetti among others competing.
In the final match before the Next Generation final, Gaston defeated Musetti in the second qualifying round of the Paris Masters.
He defeated former US Open and Wimbledon champion Kevin Anderson in the first qualifying round.
A splash at the Paris Masters could see Gaston sneak into the eighth and final NextGen Finals qualifier.
Gaston scored his first ranking point in 2016 at age 15. At the Buenos Aires Youth Olympics, he won gold in men’s singles and bronze in both the men’s doubles and mixed doubles, and ended 2018 as second in the junior world.
His current world ranking is a career-high 107th.

Hugo Gaston was coached by Marc Barbier, and the two have been together for 11 full seasons.
Barbier discovered Gaston at the age of six. Gaston from Toulouse was born into a family of tennis lovers.
Gaston used the walls of the family living room to play a lot of games with his brother, whose father became president of the Fonsorbes tennis club, about 20 kilometers from Toulouse.
