Harlan Coben’s novel adaptations have proven popular with Netflix subscribers, including the latest “Keeping Close.”Now many fans are watching Cobain’s Other releases, including 2018’s Safe. But some fans are looking for a recap of the man who killed Chris Charal in that tense finale.
Safe is a British TV series created by best-selling crime author Harlan Cobain. Following Cobain’s recent success on Netflix, the series is back in the limelight. No doubt, when creators strike deals with streaming platforms, you’ll be happy to hear that creators have more series and movies.

Who killed Chris Chahal in Safe?
Sophie killed Chris after threatening to tell police what he knew about the school fire and her involvement.
She goes to pick up her son at the Marshall house party, but while she is there, she decides to confront Chris, who immediately defends. Sophie had previously confronted Chris about his drug use, but Chris seemed to want revenge on the policewoman. He admitted that there was a recording of Sophie admitting to what she was doing on his phone, which angered Sophie.
The two started fighting and as they pushed each other they ended up falling into the pool and she drowned him. She left his body in the pool for Sia to find and made sure she deleted the recordings from his phone before leaving the scene.
Netflix ending explained
In the first episode of Safety, there is a brief mention of a fire in the school. DS Sophie Mason must have tried to divert the conversation from this when her new colleague DC Emma Castle (Arterton) brought it up.
On May 17, 1990, Sophie and her friends Rachel, Helen, Bobby and Craig lit a fire at the school to protest a teacher they didn’t like. Eight children were killed in the fire and they were not caught when the perpetrators got rid of all CCTV footage.
On her deathbed, Rachel revealed the secret to her eldest son, Jenny. Jenny tries to uncover the truth and figure out what her mom means when she says “people are dying.” Her diary suggested she was involved in an “incident”, so she visited her mom’s friend’s neighbor and found a video.
How does Jenny face the truth?
Using her boyfriend Chris’ VHS player, she discovered the tape contained hidden CCTV footage from the night of the 1990 school fire. The pair then head to Paradise, the nightclub he runs, to find Bobby, hoping to learn more about the incident. During their journey, they stop at Marshall’s house party where Chris meets his fate.
Jenny tells Helen that she knows the truth, but decides to spend the night at Helen’s house. Especially after learning of her boyfriend’s death and thinking she might be a suspect. However, Helen has called Bobby to let him know they have been spotted again.
Bobby decides to show up at Helen’s house and set her on fire. He also kidnaps Jenny, who is rescued by his father and his new lover, who happens to be Jenny’s late mom’s best friend (confusing we know)! Bobby then committed suicide, and Jenny decided that after all this she would keep the “event” a secret.
