Lieutenant Colonel Alex Dietrich was a pilot From Black Ace of Lemoore, California. She served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, recording more than 1,250 hours and 375 carrier capture landings during those missions.
She also served as adjutant to the chief of naval personnel in Washington, D.C. and executive assistant to the director of naval unconventional operations.

Dietrich is an alumnus of the Illinois School of Mathematics and Science. In addition to this, she completed a degree in civil engineering at George Washington University in 2001. She also received her MBA from GW Business School in 2014.
Today, Lt. Cmdr. Alex Dietrich is Professor of Leadership Theory and Applications at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland.
What happened to the USS Nimitz?
But Alex Dietrich is probably best known for her involvement in the encounter with the USS Nimitz in 2004.

It was a UFO incident off the coast of Southern California in November of that year, which was recorded by radar, cameras and four Navy operators. Lieutenant Alex Dietrich was one of the naval combatants who witnessed the incident and didn’t talk about it publicly until last night’s 60 Minutes episode.
But what happened? Well, UUS Nimitz trains about 100 miles southwest of San Diego. At the time, radar on a nearby USS Princeton detected the strange craft on the horizon. The vehicles descended 80,000 feet in one second.
“I don’t know who is building it, who has the technology, who has the brains. But there are some things that are better than our planes,” fmr said. The four Navy operators aboard the Nimitz are sent to encounter some strange things themselves. They found a stormy spot on the otherwise blue and calm sea. But then they were taken aback when they discovered that a small white tic-tac-toe-shaped object seemed to mimic their movements before suddenly disappearing.
Speaking of the encounter, Alex Dietrich said: “I think with a beer, we’re like, ‘Hey man, if I saw this solo, I don’t know what I’m going to say back,’ because it sounds crazy when I say that.”
