Naomi Osaka was in tears during a recent press conference in Cincinnati. Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Paul Daugherty asked the tennis star about her relationship with the media, which led her to walk off the podium in tears. Subsequently, Osaka’s agent, Stuart Duguid, accused the reporter of being a “bully.”

Naomi Osaka leaves the press conference in tears
Naomi Osaka started crying recently at the press conference for the Western and Southern Opens.
The tennis ace, who withdrew from the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year citing mental health issues, was visibly emotional after being questioned.
Paul Daugherty — a sports columnist for the Cincinnati Inquirer — asked Osaka about her relationship with the media.
Daugherty asked: “You’re not keen to deal with us, especially in this format, but you have a lot of outside interests that are served by having a media platform.
“I guess my question is, how do you balance the two, is there anything you’d like to share with us about what you said to Simone Biles?”
What was Naomi’s reaction?
Naomi Osaka replied: “I really can’t speak for everyone in this matter, I can only speak for myself. But from when I was young, the media had a lot of interest in me, and I think it was because of my background and The way I play.
“Because first of all I’m a tennis player – that’s why a lot of people are interested in me. So I’m totally different from a lot of people in that regard.

“There’s really nothing I can do about it, there are things I tweet or say that generate a lot of news articles…I know it’s because I’ve won a few majors and I’ve been in a lot of press conferences.
“But I’ll also say that I’m not sure how to balance the two. I’m trying to figure it out at the same time as you.”
As you can see in the video below, Osaka wiped the tears from her face and walked away for a moment.
She later returned to the podium.
What did Naomi Osaka’s agent say?
After the press conference, Naomi Osaka’s agent, Stuart Duguid, harshly criticized Paul Doherty.
Duguid called Enquirer reporters “bullies” in a statement obtained by E!information.
“The bully of the Cincinnati Inquirer is the epitome of why player/media relations are such a concern right now.
“Everyone on that Zoom would agree that his tone was completely wrong and his sole purpose was to intimidate.
“Really appalling behavior.”
He added: “And this suggestion that Naomi credits the media for her off-field success is a myth – don’t be so self-indulgent.”
Who is Stuart Duguid?
According to Stuart Duguid’s LinkedIn Resumewho is senior vice president of IMG Tennis.
He has held this position since November 2015.
The Osaka-based agent attended Duke Law School and was selected to 40 Under 40 list.
Stuart Duguid and Naomi Osaka appeared in a Facebook Watch video discussing brand partnerships.
Stewart is on Twitter, but his account Set to private.
In his cover photo, he has a picture of Naomi Osaka’s Netflix documentary.
Paul Daugherty’s comment on this?
At first, journalist Paul Daugherty did not respond until the incident gained traction on social media.
Doherty mostly found support on Twitter, where his tone was seen as far from being “aggressive.”
New York Times contributor Ben Rothenberg offers a String of the entire event.
At first, he seemed to imply an aggressive tone, but when people fought back, he backtracked slightly.
The topic itself isn’t scary, but a stranger’s aggressive tone made things go completely wrong after Naomi had already spoken in previous answers about the difficulties she found at the press conference.

Paul Doherty then responded with a tweet of support, saying he had never bullied anyone in his life.

He said her answer to his question was: “Honest, thoughtful … it’s unlike any answer I’ve had in my 34 years of covering sports in Cincinnati.”
Daugherty continued: “She’s very human—and doesn’t mind showing it.”
