Based on some hints in the storyline, it is speculated that Marshall is Curtis’s father.
In the October 2021 episode, Curtis told Portia that his father died of a heart attack while he was away. The camera then cuts to a mysterious figure looking at them from across the room.

Bartender N’neka starts talking about live music with a man at the club, and she points to the mysterious man who happens to be Curtis’s boss.
N’neka then went to Curtis, hoping to introduce him to anyone interested in music. She looked at where the man was sitting, and he had disappeared.
The man goes into the general hospital and tells TJ to be there because he needs to see someone about the pain around him. Then he asked TJ to call him Marshall, and TJ checked Marshall’s blood pressure and said it was fine. Marshall digs deep into TJ’s life and takes a special interest in his uncle.
It looks like Marshall has recovered all the information he was looking for, because by the time TJ returns to the ward, he has disappeared. So he’s clearly stalking Curtis Ashford and may have something to do with him.
