The golfer’s wife and caddie Helen Storey will miss the Ryder Cup this weekend. Instead, Lee Westwood’s son Sam will be his caddie, a role he’s done before, despite his nervousness.
Briton enters record-breaking Ryder Cup
For the past 20 years, Lee Westwood has been one of the most recognizable faces in golf.
Despite never winning a major, he has been one of the most consistent players on the tour over the past few decades.
Westwood has won championships in four decades, the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. He is also the first British player to become world No. 1 since Nick Faldo in 1994 – which he did in 2010.
In fact, Nick Faldo will be closely associated with Westwood in this weekend’s Ryder Cup.
Westwood first collaborated with Faldo in 1997.
Now, the Briton is entering his record 11th Ryder Cup, which he will share with Faldo.
“The irony is that he set a Ryder Cup record 11 times at Valderrama in 1997 and I was his partner and it was my first time, so it really went all around. He obviously A legend in the game and it’s a pleasure to break the record he holds,” Westwood Say.

Lee Westwood’s son to caddie for him at Whistling Straits
In recent years, golf fans have become accustomed to seeing Lee Westwood’s wife, Helen Storey, as his caddie.
Helen, a fitness trainer from Newcastle, married the golfer in Las Vegas this year.
However, Lee Westwood revealed that his son Sam will be caddie for him at this weekend’s Ryder Cup.
Sam already has caddie experience, and this year he is at Augusta with his clubs for the 2021 Masters.
Westwood said at the time: “Have a nice lad and dad ride. Looking forward to it.”
Lee and Sam are believed to be the first father-son duo to team up at the Ryder Cup, and the Briton says his son is already nervous.
“Forget the Masters, it’s a whole different scale,” he told Sun.
“Sam was as nervous as a kitten and I thought it would be a rare situation where a player would try to keep his caddie calm. But once I hit my first shot he was fine.
“It’s a welcome distraction for me and an added incentive—not that you need one at the Ryder Cup. After all, what dad doesn’t want to impress his son?”

More about Sam Westwood
Samuel Bevin Westwood, the 19-year-old son of Lee Westwood, will be seen frequently by Ryder Cup fans this week.
Sam’s mother, Laura Coltat, married Westwood in 1999 and divorced in 2017.
The couple also has a daughter named Poppy, who is Sam’s sister.
Lee had said that Sam wasn’t interested in golf until recently, but now that he has, it’s giving the 48-year-old the motivation to get off the course.
However, Lee admits his son has more in common with European teammate Victor Hofland.
The 24-year-old Norwegian is only a few years older than Sam, and Lee said they could get along better than him.
