Welsh Gwen Price takes on Scotland’s Gary Anderson at the PDC Darts World Championships tonight for £500,000.
The charismatic 35-year-old secured a place in the final with a 6-4 victory over Stephen Bunting, who had twice led 3-1 and 4-3.
Anderson earns his place with an easy 6-3 win over Dave Chisnall in the final – Dave Chisnall was Michael van Gerwen’s conquest 24 hours ago By.
Price has gained a lot of admirers, especially dart purists in recent months. The constant punching and chest thumping has been replaced by some serious tungsten talent.
The man who reached the semi-finals of the World Championship last year is still a passionate figure on stage today, but his performance as one of the game’s elite players is even more unfathomable.
Interestingly, perhaps it was his famous spat with Anderson on the 2018 Grand Slam final stage that put Price on the road to stardom.
Price, who beat the two-time world champion 16-13, has been fined £20,000 for his behaviour in a grumpy incident.
His punishment was eventually halved, but the former rugby professional has since tempered his enthusiasm.
That event seemed to kick Price into action and set him on the path to arguably his greatest achievement to date.
He retained his Grand Slam title in 2019 before taking the World Grand Prix crown in 2020. Price also got a taste of success at the World Series finals in Austria.
He helped Wales lift the 2020 World Cup with Jonny Clayton and had an amazing year.
If he wins tonight, he will not only become the world champion, but he will surpass Van Gerwen in the world rankings as the best player in the world in darts.

This month, Price joined Q-School for seven years on the advice of Welsh darts legend Barry Bates.
He won his second match, beating Austria’s Rowby-John Rodriguez 5-3 in the final to earn a Tour card.
His meteoric rise in the rankings won’t please supporters who just like to boo him at events.
Gwen Price doesn’t care at all, though, and the amount of criticism he regularly receives has propelled him to several top titles.
Lifting the Sid Waddell trophy, however, would eclipse anything he has done so far in his career, and few would deny that his performances over the past year or so would make him a well-deserved winner.
If there’s one person in the world of darts who’ll be desperate to stop him, it’s Anderson.
A 40/1 outsider, he was sidelined with a back injury and some sporadic form.
However, as a two-time world champion and consummate pro, it’s shocking how high his odds are.
He reached the match play finals this season, losing 18-10 to Dimitri Van Den Bergh in July.
Although this time he is not considered a real contender for the Ally Pally crown.
He has opted out of certain events this year, which could change over the next 12 months after admitting he intends to actually play in 2021.
Anderson wouldn’t admit it in such a sinister way, but he would no doubt be very happy to steal Price’s maiden world title and the chance to be No. 1 in darts.
Look forward to the fireworks display tonight when the Iceman and the Flying Scots take to the stage.
