This Cincinnati Bengals Take on the Los Angeles Rams today in Super Bowl LVI. Before the game, fans wanted to know where the Bengals slogan “Who Day” came from and what it meant.
The Bengals are on the verge of making history and are in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1989. Cincinnati finished the season 10-7 overall and beat the Las Vegas Raiders in super wild card weekend. Then they beat the Tennessee Titans in the division game and then the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
As they take on the Rams at SoFi Stadium, we explore why the Bengals say Who Dey and what it means.
What is “Who Wears a Bengal Tiger”?
Who Dey is synonymous with the Bengal tigers, encompassing an entire city and fan base. It’s a calling card and victory cry, bringing people together and giving Bengals fans a shared sense of identity.
Fans often sing the song to piss off opponents while boosting the morale and spirit of their own team.
The whole slogan is actually: “Who, who, who thinks will beat the Bengal Tigers?”
Answer “no one” and scream in unison.

Who is Dey from?
There is some controversy about the origin of Who Dey.
The New Orleans Saints started the Who Dat slogan in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and some believe the Bengals copied and adapted it.
However, Bengals fans say one of the sources for Who Dey was a 1980 commercial.
The ad for Red Frazier Ford from Cincinnati used the tagline: “Who’s going to give you a better deal than the Red Frazier? . . . No one!”
Others believe the Who Dey song originated from Hudy, a beer from the Hudepohl Brewing Company in the late 1980s.
“Hudy” is often chanted by brewers carrying ale, and Bengals fans are sometimes chanted at them.
Over time, this reportedly evolved from “Hudy” to Who Dey.
