Which driver has the most NASCAR Cup wins in history?
The 2021 season ends with a new champion, but which driver has the most wins in NASCAR Cup Series history? Which family has held the record since 1959?
In the 72 seasons of the NASCAR Cup Series, a total of 198 drivers have achieved the highest level of race wins in the car.
Jim Roper was the first at Charlotte in 1949, while Bubba Wallace is the latest winner at Talladega in 2021.

Who has the most NASCAR wins?
Only two drivers in NASCAR history have won more than 100 wins in a cup series—they were the series’ first major rivals.
Richard Petty and David Pearson are arguably NASCAR’s first two superstars.
Petty (bottom right), from 1,184 races, will have 200 NASCAR race victories and seven championship titles.
Pearson (left) will have 105 wins in 574 starts and three championships.

The two have won a combined eight Daytona 500s — Petty 7 and Pearson one.
Others have come close to matching their achievements and becoming members of the Centurion Club on the Cup Series winning list.
The next six drivers on the list could be covered under a blanket — some of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history.

The third driver in NASCAR history is now Hendrick Motorsports vice president Jeff Gordon.
Gordon took his first wins in the iconic #24 car in 1994 and 2015, and he has 93 wins in the Cup Series.
Gordon’s most frustrating season was 1998, where he won 13 times, including four in a row midseason between Pocono and Michigan.

That year, in 33 games, Gordon’s average was 5.6.
At Talladega in the spring (game 9), he finished outside the top five only once — 37th in Richmond.
Besides Petty and Pearson, Gordon is the only driver to win more than 90 NASCAR Cups.
Four drivers separated by a NASCAR win
Interestingly, Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip, Jimmie Johnson and Cale Yarborough are just one win away.
That’s 334 wins and 14 cup wins between them.
Allison and Waltrip (below) have 84 each, and Johnson and Yarborough have 83.

Waltrip’s 84 made him the most successful driver of the 1971-2003 Winston Cup era.
Though Alison will tell you he should have won 85 after a game in 1971 was controversially taken away by series founder Bill France.

Dale Earnhardt’s first win at Bristol in 1979 saw him join Petty and Johnson to seven cup wins.

What about Kyle Larson?
The 2021 lead driver, Kyle Larson, has 10 victories to his first cup win.
It was the most of any driver since Johnson scored 10 times in 2007.
Combined with his six wins in Ganassi, Larson has 16 NASCAR victories to his name.
That’s more than enough for No. 54 currently on the winning list, although you can expect him to continue his rise.
