When police arrived at the Turpin home, they found children between the ages of 2 and 29, some of whom were chained to their beds and living in the dark.
In the 2011 bankruptcy filing, David Turpin was named as an engineer for Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, while Louise Turpin was named as an engineer list as a housewife.

The Turpin siblings speak for the first time
The 13 siblings were held captive by their parents for years before fleeing their Southern California home in 2018. Their personal stories are now being shared, telling first-hand accounts of their experiences.
“The only word I know is hell,” one of the siblings said in the interview trailer.
A preview of the interview features Jordan, the teenager who escaped and released her siblings from torture. She explained that it was a “now or forever” moment:
“I think we’ve come close to dying so many times,” Jordan said. “It’s actually now or never. If something happens to me, at least I’m dead.”
Unprecedented body camera footage, released on 20/20, saw police storm a home and confront parents.
The full interview on “Escape the House of Horrors – Diane Sawyer Special” airs Friday, November 19 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
