Season 1 of After Life debuted in 2019 and returns for season 2 in 2020, and it’s safe to say that the series really got us through this pandemic. With its comedic style, After Life is truly a feel-good tearjerker, and as we binge-watched season three, fans couldn’t help but wonder where the bars were in episode 3.
Delays due to the coronavirus pandemic have led to the highly anticipated third season, which means we’ve been waiting almost two years for Ricky Gervais’ return. The series follows local newspaper writer Tony Johnson (Gervais) as he struggles to come to terms with his wife’s death.

Where is the bar in After Life season 3?
The pub in After Life season 3 episode 3 is called the Royal Standard of England and it is located in Beaconsfield.
Ricky Gervais spot Filming of the show’s latest series at the popular country pub in April 2021.
While filming for season 3, Ricky even took a socially distanced photo with bar owner Anna O’Keeffe.Staff at the popular pub told Bucks Free Press It was a “lovely and pleasant morning” shoot.
Comedy fans will know that the Beaconsfield area was used in the first two seasons, and the third season appears to be following suit.
This wasn’t the only film crew to use the Royal Standard pub as a filming location. It has also appeared in films such as: The Theory of Everything (2014), Summer in February (2013), Will (2011), The Boys Are Back (2009), Three Out (2008) and Hot Fuzz (2007).
Bars can also be seen on other TV shows or series, such as; Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour (2016), Endeavor (2012-present), Midsomer Murders (2009): Season 12 Episode 4: “Glitch”, Midsomer Murders (2008): Season 11, Episode 2: “Bloody Wedding” and Midsomer Murders (2006): Season 9, Episode 7: “Death in the Chorus.”
Is this a real place?
Yes, this is a real place. As mentioned earlier, The Royal Standard of England pub is located in Forty Green, Beaconsfield. Beaconsfield, a market town in Buckinghamshire, a short distance from London, was an ideal location for filming.
Many fans may also have seen a definitive shot in episode 3, which shows a small town with a bar outside next to a barber shop called Changes. This pub is actually the Old Bell in Hemel Hempstead on Main Street. Hemel Hempstead was the main filming location for After Life, where most of the filming took place. Just a 40-minute drive from Beaconsfield to Hemel Hempstead means it’s easy to transport film crews.
