Arguably the greatest motorcycle racer of them all, Valentino Rossi is now a former MotoGP rider, but when was the last time he won in a top moto?
Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP career is gone, the seasoned Italian retired with a 10th place finish in the 2021 Valencia final.
“The Doctor” has been a regular in motorcycle racing for over 25 years, but has completed his last ride as he nears retirement.
The past few seasons have been thin for Rossi as he struggles to keep up with the likes of Marc Marquez, Joan Mill and Fabio Quartararo.
But when was Rossi’s last MotoGP win and when was his last podium finish?

Valentino Rossi’s last MotoGP victory
Rossi has 89 victories in the top class and a total of 115 wins in motos, his last MotoGP victory being in 2017.
Riding for Yamaha – he won four of his seven top titles and Rossi won the Dutch TT in Assen.
He started fourth in his No. 46 Yamaha and was involved in a breakout that included Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci.
It was drizzling on the track and Rossi stayed outside wearing slick tires, which proved to be a brilliant trick.

Petrucci passed with five laps left, but Rossi slipped his fellow Italian in the final corner of the three laps from home.
Rossi will take the flag just 0.063 seconds in front of Petrucci.
It was Rossi’s 10th victory at Assen – his most combined with Barcelona at any circuit.
It turned out to be Valentino Rossi’s only win of the season, and he’ll never stand on a race-winning MotoGP side again.
Interestingly, both Rossi and seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson had their final career wins in the same month.
Johnson’s 83rd and final victory was in Dover on June 4, 2017, and Rossi’s followers on June 25.

What about his last podium?
With 199 podium finishes, Rossi’s last podium was in early 2020.
The start of the season was delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic, with Rossi withdrawing from the first race.
Next time, in the second part of Jerez’s double-header, he finished third.
Yamaha led 1-2-3 when Quartararo and Maverick Vinales led Rossi home, with the latter just 5.546 seconds behind the winner.
The 2020 season is the first time in Rossi’s career that he has not scored 100 points in a season – only 66th and 15th in the drivers’ standings.
His best result in Austria in 2021 is eighth as he withdraws from the race.
