Some Lesser Known Facts About Omar Malik
- Umran Malik is an Indian fast bowler known for his domestic level speed timers. He replaces Thangarasu Natarajan of Sunrisers Hyderabad, who was in full quarantine due to a positive report of COVID-19 on September 22, 2021.
- After the October 3, 2021 race, Umran was racing at 151.03 km/h and SRH captain Kane Williamson called him a special talent. He further added,
“I think one of our silver linings right now is certainly not desirable, but we have been able to expose a no. Young players, as we said, Indian talent is definitely a means. “They didn’t give him a longer rope. So, he was disappointed, but the challenge for us was to make sure he didn’t lose the plot.”
- He developed his pace while playing tennis as a child. Coming from a family that could barely afford the expenses, his father inspired him to continue the game.his coach told him
“He was an X-rated dropout and all he did was play cricket. He had a sister and he was the only son in the family so they were very supportive and it helped him play freely.”
- While he was practicing in the net, then Assam coach and former India goalkeeper Ajay Ratra saw him bowling in the net. He was so impressed with his speed that he condemned the selectors for not picking him into the team in Jammu and Kashmir.
- He was soon drafted into the Jammu and Kashmir team, which was mentored by former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan.Manhas said in an interview
“Irfan was a top fast bowler and he saw potential in Umran and they started coaching young cricketers which boosted his confidence.”
- Patan recalled the first time he met Umran in a camp in Jammu. He said,
“What impresses me is his pace, but back then, he would jump out a lot. So, we had to do some work on his bowling action. It helped him gain control and also benefited his bowling.” Because Patan and their head coach, Mirap Mevada, want to cultivate that kind of talent. But when protests sparked due to increased demand to repeal Article 370 in 2019, his training was disrupted and all players, including Umran, were sent home. Patan later told: “Umran was one of the young prospects and our goal was to work with him in training camp to get him ready for the Ranji Trophy. But that didn’t happen. But all credit All credit to him, he’s been working really hard over the past few months and has been impressive for the Nets.”

- Pathan and Jammu & Kashmir coach Milap Mewada hopes to nurture this talent by providing him with maximum training to prepare him for the upcoming tournament. In 2019, however, the state was under a curfew as Kashmir protested the revocation of Article 370. As a result, the training camp was abandoned and the players were sent home.
- Syed Ashiq Bukhari, the former IPS office and current JKCA CEO, then instructed the regional police department to personally go to each player’s home and bring them safely to the camp. After being picked up by the IPL, he caught the attention of the team’s management when they saw their batsman and Australian cricket star David Warner be beaten by his raw pace. Patan said,
“He’s still a work in progress, he still has to play quite a bit of domestic cricket to get better. But he’s a real talent with potential.”
- He made his T20 debut against Railways in the Syed Mustak Trophy on 18 January 2021 under Parvez Rasool. Jammu and Kashmir chose to play first after winning the toss. Both rail openers gave the team a good start with 104 points. In the first delivery on the 14th, Umran sent their captain Karn Sharma (bowling) back to the pavilion. After three balls, he dismissed Mrunal Devdhar for 57. He then took another wicket in the 16th inning, thus completing his four pitches, conceding 24 overs for three wickets for a decent 6.00 ERA. Jammu and Kashmir won the match over 4 rounds. After the game, Parveen Rasool said,
“He’s a real talent with the potential to go further. At the net, he’s hitting the batters in the helmet a lot. He’ll definitely improve further over time.”

- A month later, he made his debut against Bangladesh at the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Videocon Academy Ground (Kolkata) on 22 February. He conceded 98 runs in 10 rounds with a 9.8 economy, but took a wicket in that game. Jammu on the other side lost the match with 82 points.
- At the Dubai International Stadium, he was named for 11 matches against the injured Sandeep Sharma in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Sunrisers scored 115 on the first hit. In response, Kolkata lived up to their expectations with 11 points when Omar was out in the fourth inning. He conceded nine runs at an average speed of 145 km/h in the first race. He conceded 27 times with an economy of 6.75 in his full quota of four rounds. Although the Sunrisers lost the game, Umran’s bowling won everyone’s heart.
