Top 5 Avatar Characters: The Last Airbender
Ever since creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko introduced the world to Avatar: The Last Airbender, fans and critics alike agree that anime shows are among the best children’s shows on TV. What makes this show so good is the incredible depth of characters who come and go over the three seasons. This article will highlight five of the best characters from the popular Nickelodeon show. However, Aang, Sokka and Katara will be left out of this list as they are obvious choices for great characters. Let’s start with the name:
Top North Wind
Can you imagine Toph as a muscular male character who joins Aang and the gang? The crazy thing is that this was originally a stand-in character, supposed to be the opposite of Sokha, the lover of Katara. Thankfully, the show’s producers dropped the idea of the satirical and brave blind Toph Beifong. Introduced in the second two episodes, blind robber, The mighty Earthbender stands in stark contrast to Aang, Sokka, and Katara, and her little rivalry with the latter brings some of the show’s funniest moments. However, despite being portrayed as a strong protagonist, the show isn’t afraid to highlight Toph’s softer side and her insecurities. Toph adds an interesting dynamic to the team, a perfect match, no idea how empty the team Avatar would be without her showing up.
Azura
Sadistic evil sister debut storm Azula is the perfect example of how to craft a powerful villain. Given that this is a cartoon, the creators could have easily exploited Azula’s evil side, but thanks to her friends Mai and Ty Lee, they wisely decided to make her a three-dimensional being. We’re able to see Azula’s lighter side, which shows she’s more than just a sly vixen. Granted, Azura’s personality never changes when she’s around these two, but she’s able to show her lovely side. Of course, Azula is completely insane after Mai and Ty Lee’s betrayal, and her fight with Zuko is a huge reward for the rivalry between their brothers. What makes Azula stand out more than Lord Ozai is that we have the opportunity to connect more with her character than Firelord, making her the more interesting of the two.
Prince Zuko
More antiheroes from the series. Introduced in the first episode, Zuko came across as a jerk in the early seasons, but you can see why he’s so obsessed with trying to capture Avatar. The prince just wanted his father’s approval. Zuko’s moral conflict makes him such a fascinating character. He doesn’t hate Avatar. And Prince Zuko’s heart has always been in the right place. Zuko alone is such a strong character-driven work because it really portrays Zuko as actually one of the good guys in trouble. Also, his dynamic with Uncle Iroh is worth watching.Either way, Zuko is arguably the best character The Last Airbender Due to his complexity and bad habits.
injection
Another complex character in Battle of Good and Evil, although Jett’s story is more tragic. He first appeared in the series of the same name in the first book, where we meet the leader of the freedom fighters. We learn that Jett witnessed his parents die at the hands of Fire Nation soldiers; however, Jett’s killing of an entire village was far more sinister than most of the villains on the show. Although Jet doesn’t have as much airtime as Azula or Prince Zuko, his juxtaposition of words and deeds makes him stand out. Jett is also of the antihero category, but more of a delusional character who doesn’t understand that most of his actions are vile and outrageous.what a great Avatar It’s the show that isn’t afraid to tackle mature themes, which is one of the reasons most of the characters are so captivating. Jett’s death is a sad event. Even though we didn’t actually see it, his final heroic moments and Smellerbee’s cry really hit us.
uncle ilo
Like Toph, Uncle Iroh’s personality has undergone some changes. Originally, he was supposed to play the double agent, opening Prince Zuko in later seasons. While this would be an interesting direction, it was still a great decision to have Uncle Iroh as a wise and caring mentor. His time with Zuko always brings wit and laughter, and while he doesn’t match the sophistication of some of the characters on the roster, watching Uncle Iroh on a show revolving around war is nothing short of a joy.
