Euphoria Season 2 Episode 5 Synopsis
The episode opens with the Bennett family arguing after her mother Leslie questioned whether Rue was on medication again. She reveals that it was Jules who told her about the relapse, causing Lu to start searching for the drug suitcase she got from Laurie.
Stressed and desperate, the argument erupted into a mother-daughter quarrel in Gia’s room, terrifying the younger brother. Leslie locked Rue out of the bedroom, but she eventually kicked the door open.
Jules eventually revealed that the drugs had been flushed down the toilet, leading Lu to lash out, calling her a “greedy witch who only likes to suck human life”.
Things got better when Rue agreed to go to the hospital with her mother, but she changed her mind and escaped from the car.
Her first stop was Cassie and Lexi’s home. At this point, it’s clear that Rue is on alert as they hunt for drugs and jewelry in their bathroom. Cassie t to tries to convince her to seek help by “once a day” – like she’s never tried it before.
She replied, “Hey Cass, how long have you been Nate Jacobs?” The next thing you know, Maddie got violent.
Rue’s next stop is Fez’s house, but after she tries to steal his grandmother’s medicine, he forces her out and she breaks into a house to steal jewelry.
The homeowner saw her and called the police, another obstacle for Rue. Her last destination was Laurie’s home, where she was given morphine to ease the pain.
Euphoria: This is what morphine does to the body
morphine is an analgesic used to treat moderate and severe pain. It can cause many side effects, including headaches, drowsiness, and mood changes. Serious side effects can also occur, such as hallucinations, fast heartbeat, and vomiting.
The drug enters the brain through the bloodstream, releasing signals that mask pain and enhance pleasure, according to Mayo Clinic. They can become addictive, which is why monitoring by a medical professional is critical.
Morphine can cause serious or life-threatening breathing problems, especially within the first 24 to 72 hours of taking the medicine.
When a person suddenly stops taking the drug, they experience withdrawal symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, yawning, and anxiety, so professionals usually reduce the dose gradually.
Fans fear for Lu’s life
With Laurie getting Rue addicted to morphine, we seriously think she’s on the brink. The dealer also subtly suggests prostitution as a way for Rue to get back her lost money, so she might be in the next episode as teens now have no control over their bodies.
But, knowing that season 3 is set, surely the producers won’t let Rue die this season? Unless she’s killed, this will be the ultimate plot twist since she’s the main character!

This episode broke my heart. Ru is so painful. The people who care about her are struggling, just as painful. I cried when Laurie took advantage of Rue’s fragile state to inject her with morphine… #euphoria
