Theory: Top-down and Ninth Gate may exist in the same universe
Watching these two films one might snort contemptuously that they have nothing in common, but the truth is they have more in common than one might want to admit.The most obvious fact is that both films are about the occult, as the group in As Above Goes to find the Philosopher’s Stone and encounters various supernatural powers that seem intent on punishing or torturing them, while in the ninth gate, Dean Corso, played by Johnny Depp, is on a quest to verify a book said to have been written by the devil. Some might say they are worlds apart because one is about finding a book and one is about finding the heart of truth, even if it was originally about finding an artifact, that leaves at least part of the audience wondering if the protagonist is saying truth. There’s a link to tie it all together, and while the two stories have been separated for so many years, as critics have pointed out, The Ninth Gate was released in 1999 with little fanfare. But it’s also a bit far-fetched to say that top-down has a cult following.
But the fact that the two films did take place in Paris was short-lived for TNG, and even though their release dates were so far apart, it was easy to make a connection. It might be a connection that might take a while to make, but the fact that both the paranormal and the occult are involved, and it’s fair to say they’re opposing events that may have a common core, especially given that anything deals with hell, Things can happen in so-called random locations and still be tied to the same source. It’s a stretch, but it’s still an interesting idea because it works.

It’s licensed, which is a great thing to do in life. It could easily be a joint project, bringing the two stories together despite the fifteen-year gap between them.
There probably wasn’t enough interest to make it happen, even if people were interested in stories that were far less interesting and ridiculous, but oh well. It’s interesting that someday someone might come up with an idea for a script that might combine these two ideas and make something that could be turned into an epic, or at least an interesting story that might be compelling enough to be engaging on the big screen or streaming service . It might also be interesting to see if the original cast might be involved, maybe a cameo or a major part. But before that interest arises, it’s safe to say that the connection between the two films will be a personal wish, as both films are great in their ways, but true in fulfilling their main premise Deficiencies will occur.
