The Sevens may be fighting for payback in The Boys season 3
👧👓⚡
If you watch The Boys on Amazon Prime, you’ll notice how familiar The Seven is. On paper, this superhero group is the most popular and brave of all the heroes in The Boys universe. Most people in America and the world see them as selfless and crime-fighting heroes who just want to save the world. Behind the scenes, however, they are the furthest from the greatest heroes in the world. The world’s most famous “superheroes” care more about their public image, as long as they can keep a lot of money in their bank accounts. They star in their own movies, launch their own brands, and just occasionally fight crime. No matter what convinces the public that they are heroes, if it makes them rich, they will do it. If you’ve read the boys comics, the Seven is even more immoral. The show at least allowed them to have some kind of morality in a way. If you’re a fan of the show, I implore you to read the comics. I should warn you, however, you better have a strong stomach. The show can get gory, but the pages of the manga are very vivid. The boys really were a bloodbath, but there was a lot of dark humor and intense action along the way. That’s why we got this show, but of course, it’s kind of neutral in terms of violence. Understandable, but I think it’s enough to be a bloody carnage with enough dark humour to help immerse us. Hey, I’ll take it.
When it comes to the Seven, think of them as the Justice League flipping over their heads. Literally every member of the Seven should be a dark mirror version of every major Justice League member. For example, Homelander, the leader of the Seven, is a super dark version of the healthy hero Superman. Likewise, the longtime member of the Seven, Queen Maive, is based on the most famous superheroine, Wonder Woman. Of course, their silent super ninja hero Black Noir is heavily modeled after the famous Batman. Oh, but it doesn’t stop there. You have A-Train, the famous Speedster hero of the Seven, who is apparently based on the Justice League’s scarlet speedster, The Flash. Without a doubt, the Seven have their least known member, Deep Sea, who is a grim version of the underwater monarch known as Aquaman. Heck, even the now deceased Lamplighter is heavily based on the cosmic ring hero known as Green Lantern.
There is no doubt that the creation of the Seven is a dark reflection of the Justice League. Granted, the Justice League has several comic book teams based on them, but the Seven were meant to be more down-to-earth. They are heroes in the public eye, but they are ultimately more concerned with their own financial interests. These are not the heroes we want to protect us, which is why Billy Butcher helped form the boys. But this small group of black action professionals doesn’t have much of a chance against the super-thugs of the Seven. Sure, they’ve been able to survive for a while and slip past the Seven, but they can’t win this battle by working behind the scenes. Their best chance might be the next super character we’ll get in the upcoming third season. First, we’ll have Jensen Ackles playing a character called Soldier Boy. Just look at the pictures of him in costume, and he’s sure to remind you of a special Marvel superhero. A Supe named Soldier Boy was undoubtedly modeled on the famous war hero/superhero Captain America. But there’s another new Supe on the show, and her name is Crimson Countess. She will be played by former Walking Dead star Laurie Holden. Take a look at the pictures of her in costume and you’ll see some similarities between her and Scarlet Witch. In other words, she has a lot of red spots on her body.
What do these two characters have in common? Both of them are members of another superhero team in the world of The Boys called Payback. Actually, guess who is a member of Payback in the comics? The Nazis, known as Stormfront, sympathized with racists. Fun fact, she’s actually based heavily on the Norse Thor hero known as Thor. She doesn’t need a magic hammer, but she can manipulate lightning by herself. So we have three heroes based on some famous Marvel superheroes and the most famous superhero team called The Seven, based on DC’s most famous superhero team. I think fans of the show can see where they’re going. For the record, Stormfront isn’t the only Payback character to have appeared on The Boys. In the second season, we saw the Archer Eagle, who introduced the Abyss to the Collective Church. If you know Marvel, you can quickly guess who the Archer Eagle is. So the members of this team are based on Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Thor and Hawkeye. In my opinion, the boys not only have their Justice League-based team, but also an Avengers-based team. This is sure to lead to an epic confrontation between Payback and the Seven.
With members of the Seven at a disadvantage, we may be looking for a new team to challenge them. I should probably point out that Payback also has their own version of Iron Man. In typical boy fashion, he was given a sarcastic name, and unlike most Supes, he had no power. He was named Tek Knight, and as the name suggests, he relied on his inventions rather than power. However, let’s not leave out two other Payback members who are very similar to the rest of the Avengers. They have Mind-Droid, which is very similar to Vision, and Swatto, a shape-changing hero very similar to Ant-Man. The name alone says it all. It sounds like the boys are gearing up for the Seven to fight revenge. In the comics, the Paybacks are the second most popular superhero team in the world, after The Seven. Where does this get them? Well, Stormfront is all but dead, and Soldier Boy and the Crimson Countess are on their way, and it looks like the return will make its debut. Again, Stormfront might be back, but I doubt she’ll rejoin the Seven. Everyone knew she was a Nazi, but she probably still had some supporters.
I think the other members of Payback in the comics will make their debut on the show. When they do, I can imagine Billy Butcher developing a plan to pit the two teams against each other. If you have two powerful enemies, why not let them fight each other? It’s so fitting for the tone of the boys, it sounds like an epic battle. Boys fans, what do you think? Does the idea of Seven Fights get you excited? Looks like we’ll find out next year. This year feels empty, without another season of boys.
