In a fantasy world, Jack (Peter Bergman) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) were supposed to be together on New Year’s Eve, even though the plans fell through. Jack went on a business trip without saying goodbye, and now fans are speculating whether Phyllis will be next to leave.

The real reason Jack Abbott quit Young And The Restless
Peter Bergman as Jack Abbott, tell soap depth He had to undergo emergency eye surgery to repair the detached retina. The surgery will require considerable recovery time and will keep him off the show for the foreseeable future. Don’t panic though, Jack’s departure is only temporary and he will be back in Genoa soon.
Bergman first discovered the problem when he and his wife were visiting family on California’s central coast. “On the way, I had an interesting thing in the inner corner of my left eye,” Bergman tell soap. “At night, it’s like a curtain, closing towards the center of my vision.”
The next morning, he went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a retinal detachment. The next day, instead of having surgery in San Luis Obispo, he made an appointment in Los Angeles, shortened the trip, and returned home for surgery.
The recovery process from this surgery is important and can take a long time. Bergman had to keep his face parallel to the floor for 50 minutes an hour for seven days. His wife Mariellen made an installation herself so he could watch TV while in place.
Bergman said his “temporary blindness” was “a sobering reminder of how precious sight is.”
When will Jack Abbott return to Y&R?
Jack Abbott will return to your screen shortly. In fact, Bergman has returned to work, continuing to play the role of Jack and discussing his character’s storyline in 2022. One might assume his intentions for Phyllis.
Phyllis finds that Jack leaves without saying goodbye, and Lauren Baldwin is the bearer of bad news. Phyllis sends Jack a text message wishing him a Happy New Year, only to find out that he will only be away for a few weeks. Will Jack drop a bombshell when he comes back?
Jack may decide he doesn’t want to be heartbroken again, or leaving Phyllis will make him realize how much he misses her. We’ll have to wait and see – but we can’t wait to see Jack back on our screens!
